I have a weird request for you guys...

Since you guys seem to be so into the working out thing, maybe you can help me out.

Quick stats about myself

Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 180 lbs

Now here's the deal, I know that I’m slightly overweight, but I don't look it, but I do seem to have what could be described as "man boobs" (not big ones mind you) and a stomach that sticks out. I know I should be trying to loose the weight and start toning the muscle but there's a few problems to that.

Firstly, I’m entirely vegetarian, which means that I don’t eat any type of red meat, white meat, fish, or eggs (I can make small exception here, but I still can’t have them straight). And I’ve read a few of the diet tips that you guys have given here, most of which are very similar to the Atkins/low carb/high protein diets as they all involve eating a lot of meat. Translation: it’s very hard for me to get protein into my body. I guess the best alternative would be to get the soy protein or whey protein powders and make myself a shake or something in the morning.

Secondly, I’m East Indian, and for those of you that have ever had any Indian food, you know that it is based primarily in carbs. The breads are all baked or fried wheat flour, with plenty of rice. The only protein type substances are available in the lentils (although I doubt there’s enough to fulfill the daily requirement).

Thirdly, I have had flat feet since I was three years old. I wear pads now, but years of having ignored them have put my back in a sort of sore situation and also affect my breathing, as they do not allow me to be very active.

So here’s my problem, I need to lose some weight and tone my chest and stomach, hell, while I’m at it, I’d like to sculpt my arms as well. I know it’s going to take lots of work and dedication, and I’m willing to do almost whatever it takes. I don’t have ready access to a gym currently, but I’m trying to persuade my parents to buy a Total Gym (that home work-out system that Chuck Norris and his wife are spokespersons for).

I was wondering if you guys could help me out in telling me what particular exercises I should do, what kind of foods to absolutely avoid…

In general, I was wondering if you guys would help me layout a diet & exercise/work-out plan where I can lose 10-15lbs and maybe gain a little bit of muscle along the way. Any help is greatly greatly appreciated.

Thanks sincerely,
liquid

Ok u need to go with me to Bally's Total Fitness and you'll be good to go. Anyways, u can get your protein from peanut butter, almonds, and trail mix. U should also try nitro-tech. PM me if u want a detailed workout routine.

I don't understand this thing with flat feet. I have flat feet, and am fine. Should I be wearing pads?

flat feet eventual causes knee problems and i guess back problems, but the majority starts with the knees. if you got flat feet you need to visit a physical therapist to get some shoe inserts.

WHAT! Why hasn't anyone told me about this?

just out of curiosity man, how old are you?

cuz my parents found out about this when i was like 3, i think our pediatrician told us, i wore pads when i was younger, but when i moved to the states, i stopped wearing them. i became slightly more active when i moved here, started running, and working out and stuff, and that really started putting strain on my knees and my back. if you haven't been very active, then the symptoms might not be noticeable, but you will definetly have problems later.

i thought about that...i'm somewhat concerned, as getting proteins from nuts might not be a very good idea. aren't most nuts high in cholestrol (or is it the other way around) and my family has a history of heart problems. my grandfather died of a heart attack, and my father has high blood pressure.

That sux dude, then u might as well buy protein in powder and mix it with water...I dunno if u drink milk...that would help.

i just researched a little bit about the nuts, turns out, there's no cholesterol, but they are high-fat, high calorie food substances, and it might not be a good idea after all, thought the whole idea was to cut out fatty foods?

i'm not vegan, which means i can have some dairy products. i have to have milk, it's my only source of calcium (other than my daily multi-vitamin) i guess i can always add a little bit of protein powder to like my breakfast cereal or something, as long as i can mask the taste of the protein powder, that taste NASTY!

i just found this in some of my reasearch on protein in nuts:

quote:
Contrary to the concerns of many of the participants about gaining weight from eating the additional fat and calories in almonds, there was no weight gain. In fact, the feeling of satiety apparently prevented weight gain. "Some of them ate some of the almonds just before dinner and they ate less dinner after doing so," reported Dr. Spiller.

i guess i can just start doing that. maybe have like a spoon of peanut butter, or some trail mix before a meal, so that i don't eat as much as i usually would...

Trail mix is the dude.
