What many Europeans fail to remember is most Americans have direct ties to Europe. My father was born in Europe and my mother's father too. The reason they both left Europe was for opportunity. That and other Europeans were trying to kill them. And when they didn't kill them they destroyed everything they had.
Also remember the United States fought a war of independence against the British and won. Us Americans did not want to be European. Just like most Europeans do not want to be Americans.
Personally I have enjoyed visiting Europe many times and look forward to doing so again. But I am grateful for this country and would not want to live anywhere else. I would imagine most Europeans feel the same way concerning their own homelands. I know my European relatives do. But you don't see Americans flaming the Swiss, Dutch or any other European countries for that matter. My observation it's the Europeans doing most of the flaming. We in the United States are ambivalent to Europe's somewhat negative opinions of us. Much of it comes across as trite.
The cliche use to be "The ugly American." I now recognize a new species titled "The ugly European." Your knee jerk pollution has tainted many threads I have read and participated in.
Can't we all just get along? Time to knock off the racist bull. We are no different that you. |
