I take the TTC to work every morning and now i work in Scarborough. It takes me 2 subways and 2 busses to get to where I need to...overall it takes about an hour to get TO work and even longer to get back home.

Last week my mom left to Israel to visit my grandparents after my grandfather had a surgery and she left me tha car so natually now I'm taking the 401 to work. Even if the traffic isn't the best it takes me about 25 minutes or so to get to work...

25 minutes vs 1 hour or sometimes long to be stuck in a bus full of people in rush hour and i'll be honest with you some need better personal hygene lessons!

So unless you're taking the subway downtown I don't know it's debatable, but still cheaper.

Your so right about that starsearcher...I used to go to centennial and there is NO inbetween way. Its either all the way around via the 2 subways and a lrt and a bus, or it was an hour long bus ride from the yonge line and then some...the sheppard subway barely closed the gap between the yonge line and scarborough.

Not to be mean but what exactly do you expect? You don't live in Toronto proper, so why do you expect that you should be able to get there for less than $4.75 (the cost of YRT+TTC)?

Either way, you can still by tokens/tickets on discount.

I live close enough...the bus ride from the last subway stop (finch) is 15 minutes at best, just a little north rather than east or west...Hell it takes people in north scarborough longer to get downtown than me probably....

edit: at worst, not at best, at best it takes less than 10

My car costs me $500 a month all in all (insurance, payments, gas)not inc repairs. I estimate to travel downton and back 5 times a week as well as do my daily chores it would cost me roughly $400 a month in transit fares. Thats $75 for the oakville transit. About $200 for GO trains and $98 for a TTC pass. Thats not including the times i would probably say "fuggit" and just take a cab.

So for $100 more per month i have the convenience of short trip times, my own personal space, and something to show for my investment.

Transit is just not worth it in many cases.

wow i cannot believe you just called a car an investment. insane...in no way is a car ever an investment, unless its a classic car, or if you will it can be considered the worste investment you will ever make.

and another thing, where is your parking fares in that $500 figure? cause i know parking is not cheap during the day in TO, like $30/day under my building.

A car is a deep dark endless money-sucking pit.:whip:
arek
the strike won't happen.
dallastar
I will be totally screwed - even though I live in the downtown area, but still I royally depend on TTC to get to and from work - and I refuse to walk home from work at 11:15pm!!!:whip:

I hope you are correct Arek - saying the TTC strike will NOT happen!
infinity HiGH
These lazy s are planning another strike?!? You've got to be ing kidding me!! I make $15/hour and I work harder in 1 shift than any of these bastards do in a week...and they still want more money?!

Why can't the TTC use replacement workers like the NHL will do? Let these greedy bastards sit there and bitch.

and the funniest thing is that im a huge huge car guy.

I have atleast 2 ferrari posters on each of my walls, every Road & Track dating back to Jan 2000, i was F1 live(never taped), and read about cars all the time.

but i know it sooo bad to have one. so i will hold on till i can truly afford one.

well thats bad , since they raised the prices of the fare, but either way, i think the transit system here is bad, take one bus, take another and another and subway, i wish they could make it easy to expand the TTC subway lines like other big citys.

i've got a metropass and it's a 10 min walk for me to Finch station, I go, sit on the train, and read my book - then a 30Min ride straight to the bottom of my building.. Compared to my car which would cost $20/per day for parking? I do have a car which I drive only on weekends, or when i'm going out and will stay later then subway will be open. Just the parking cost is enough for me to not bother. Forget about the traffic, the environment, and ensuing road rage!!

And people wonder why more people don't use public transportation. How can you depend on an industry that's on strike at least once a year? These people have some of the cushiest jobs in the world.

To be fair, I'm not about to blame the drivers themselves. It's been a while since the unions in any part of Canada actually represented their members.
