| im 22 and i am looking into getting a motorcycle this summer. Just curious what you would recommend getting as a beginner bike. I was looking for something aroun 500cc in a sports bike. I really like Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. let me know what you think |

Well for a first bike i would recommend an older 600... cheap, still fast, comfy, a little cheaper on insurance..
my personal choice would be an old F, or F2 CBR... i had an 89 CBR, it was an awesome learner bike...
the old ZX6R and ZX6e from kawasaki are also nice learner bikes...
personally id stay away from the GSXR and R6... if you got any more specific questions, just ask |

| what has anyone head of the Ninja 250R. I really like it cause i can pick a new one up for $3K, and it gets like 70mpg. I just need something simple to start off on. |

I knew a guy who had one... they are pretty tiny bikes... it would be alright to learn on, but trust me, you would get very bored, very quickly... especially depending on your size... im a big guy 6'1 250lbs... i rode a 250 and wanted to chuck it into a ditch like 30 mins in... |

| the fireblade and the GSXR are 2 totally different machines... and i dont think suggesting someone gets a litre bike after they "get used" to a 600... sounds like an accident waiting to happen |

Orbax hasn't posted yet?! Wow, thats a first :P.
A 500 would be a GREAT starter bike, I would recommend a Kawasaki 500R Ninja if you want to buy a somewhat newer bike. Excellent bikes for starters. If this is gonna to be your first bike and first time riding than I would really recommend a used bike. Id say early 90's 600 would a great choice. A yamaha FZR-600 or Kawasaki 600R Ninja are both good choices.
Whats your price range? Remember to set aside about 800 bucks towards gear. Helmet, pants, jacket, gloves, and boots. Have you taken the MSF course yet? if not I would highly recommend that too. |

ugh, don't get a busa. the thrill of acceleration is nothing compared to taking corners at speed.
I have a 2004 R6:
and couldn't be happier with it.
I'd recommend the Yamaha R6 or the Honda CBR600RR
both are great bikes and capable of performance far greater than pretty much anyone can achieve on them.
it definitely does come down to the question of why you're getting the bike. if it's for showing off or going fast in a straight line, then a Busa isn't that bad of an option. but if it's to become a good rider, start with a pure sportbike like those i mentioned above.
