| apparently the government bulldozed all the houses off of centre island and algonquin island in the 60s to create the park we enjoy today. I wish they would have kept going. |

The news clip mentions..."...no excessive noise from a certain area of the complex.." I wonder of they mean the parking lot where the noise originated from in the first place during Area:One ..Otherwise the Docks can still pump out the tunes INSIDE the club at the usual volume...Maybe Tekhead can give us more insight here:confused:
I hope they don't revoke the liquor license because it will vertually kill that part of the Docks' business:sadgreen: |
That's exactly it...this was from some idiots hosting events outdoors...and whether the club is located there or in the middle of the club district, there are LEGAL, ESTABLISHED residential communities which have a right to have noise levels at LEGAL levels.
The Docks should not lose it's liquor license...and they should seek to recoup the 6k judgement from organizers of the events who violated the sound laws.
Suggesting that residents just "shut up" is extremely ignorant and discriminatory...what difference does it make if they are island residents or live right in the city
What they pay to live there is 100% irrelevant (and they do pay to live there ). It's a legal community...if people have a problem with that, write your MP. The residents are well within their rights...
What's really lame is that people seem to be ignoring that this is just due to a couple OUTDOOR events that HAVE NOT been held since...so the Docks is not really in danger of being shut down...so relax everyone ;) There's no way in hell they will lose their entire liquor license over this
Guv and Boa manage to soundproof themselves enough to respect noise laws...I'm sure the Docks is capable of doing the same. |

I agree that sound carries over water. This is exactly why I say that you shouldn't expect to live across the water from such a huge city and expect it to be like living on a lake up north. What makes it worse is how they pay virtually nothing to live there. They get no sympathy from me whatsoever. If they want peace an quiet there are many many many places in this country in which to get it that aren't next to a major city and that aren't next to an airport. |
Took the words outta my mouth...
Someone needs to remind them where they live... |

| Most of those idiots dont actually live on the island. They use them as cheap summer homes as per my understanding. |

I think they should revoke the island residents' permits instead.
Im sick of that merry band of whiners setting the policies in this city and they dont even pay freaking rent, taxes or mortgages.
F THEM! Time to relocate these idiots somewhere in Nunavut so they can get their desired peace and quiet.
NEWFLASH TO IDIOT ISLANDERS:
YOU LIVE NEXT TO THE 4th LARGEST CITY IN CANADA/US. AND NOISE TRAVELS OVER WATER!!

| I'll trade a night on the island with my crappy apartment on Carlton. What with the streetcars, the phoenix letting out at 4 am and the nutcases in the neighbourhood, I bet they'd stop cryin' in a heartbeat! |

just out of curiousity, were those island homes built first or the Docks and island airport ?
don't other residents living in downtown TO hav to cope with the same amount of noise pollution on a nighly basis? Not only that but the Docks from what I understand, operate primarily on weekends is that right?
Whatever the case, there seems to be a lot of selfishness going on here..

I think I have heard that those houses are not actually supposed to be permanant homes, and that they are only summer cottages, yet they are living there all year.
Does anyone know if that's true? |
