What goes on ? The only concert ( dont even know if you would call it a "concert") rather IDM i was SUPPOSED to go to was Neotropic, but didn't end up going. I would imagine the atmosphere to be much different than anything I've been to before. "ULtravisitor" by Squarepusher was produced live? correct and you can hear the crowd in the background. I'm always thinking whether their dancing, jumping up and down, laying down, lounging, etc... i dont know.. It's a whole different feeling.. you almost study the music, its hard to explain. I guess I would just want my own chair, a drink, a dim lit room if i was to attend any IDM event. and then the music starts and then i close my eyes.... |

well, in its defense, there have been numerous studies that show music of a complex nature tends to, for lack of better words, get your brain working. IDM is, for the most part, very complex as opposed to some other types of EDM, or even music in general. i dont that whoever came up with that term really intended it to strike people as elitest. bah its 4am...im tired.
but...at least your post...kind of has a strong point, that biznology fellow...well i hope he was joking...because thats plain goofy. i dont see how someones ignorance to music makes everyone else an elitest. :conf: pretty in stupid. |

In my opinion, illbient, alternative hiphop & ambient or "chilled techno" encapsulate all what IDM is about when it comes to melody & mood.
I think the main 'goal' of IDM, is to give you either the feeling of non-existing nostalgia or sophistication. Many I've read spoke of artists who also have been know in the experimental D'nB-side. I like most of them, especially "Squarepusher" and "u-ziq".

Most peolpe would say most IDM-producers are just a bunch of uber pretentious avant-gardists, but they're wrong. Most of them are just crazy, and that's the fun about this music. An example would often be the playfull side of this music. Some are just too idiotic (in a way) to pay serious attention to.
My ass if you'd say people should be paying serious attention to "Aphex Twin - Donkey Rhubarb":haha:
Oh... And by the way, later they ripped of the Aphex consept from the videoclip:mad:...
