Seperate church from state is all I have to say. If the government were purely right wing, the church would play a way bigger role in the USA.

Actually lemme expand on that. The bible belt is very right wing, and these people hold power in terms of money, in terms of politics. Very much power.

I even saw on the 700 club one time how they were saying that a large part of US foreign policy in terms of ISRAEL is to make the holy land more accessible to american christians, and pave the way for the second coming of christ, who is to be reborn in the holy land, or some crazy like that. actually I'm sorry, it's ignorant to call it crazy , it is somebodies beliefs and I shouldn't rip on them, I just find it kinda off the wall. Of course Israel as an ally to the USA has alot to do with economic interest in the region and many many things, thikning about that really strong religious view as being one of the driving forces when helping Israel is kinda creepy. Really doesn't have much to do with this thread, just why I said bible humping earlier.

NO. We're not better, we're not worse. Most Canadians have a better understanding of american politics than they do of Canadian politics. Most Canadians are clueless about the tensions between the west coast and ottawa, and the east coast vs. ottawa. It seems the only thing we know about in Canadian politics is that Quebec wanted to seperate. We only know about it because everybody remembers that one Halloween where the referendum was taking place. Hell, I was young enough to trick or treat back then and remember EVERY HOUSE that I went to had it on.

Now don't get me wrong, there are alot of well informed Canadians (Jayx1 et al.) but the majority of us are clueless. Those who do watch the news, simply choose CNN/ABC/NBC/CBS news over the CBC, Global News, or other Canadian based news channels. There may be an oversaturation of American news, and sure, alot of American news is important on a world scale, but choosing not to hear about Canadian news is a ing shame. The choice is there, it's on you to make it.

I'm sure many of you are reading this realizing that you don't know too much about what's going on in Canada. You prolly didn't hear about the extreme tension that was happening when Newfoundland was pissed off at Ottawa, or the Canadian cattle crisis that seems like will never end. Those who do know, good on you. Those who don't, research it. This stuff matters.

If you're gonna rip on americans, be informed.

A message to all the americans out there, I don't hate you, I just hate some of your populations very right wing bible humping views.

Note: nothing on this board triggered my rant. I was actually overhearing some people yesterday bashing americans and they were completely clueless.

:)

This is exactly what I've been saying on this board for so many months. Everybody here can go on for 8 hours about Dubya, but half of them don't know that our PM is Paul Martin and not Jean Cretien anymore. (Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the picture).

I'm glad to see that someone else is on the same page.

This "don't bash Americans" thread has turned into a bunch of incorrect and unpositive stereotypes about Americans being reinforced.

ha. ha. ha.

hmmm doesnt the lebanese flag really resemble the canadian flag?
-> ? eh, no?
karim
Current lebanese flag was inducted in 1943 (with the red stripes, the tree's been around since 1912).
Current canadian flag was inducted in 1964.

Yeah, they look kinda close, but they definately had nothing to do with eachothers design. Almost every flag can be drawn up using a few of these colours:

A religious symbol, and/or a plant, and/or an animal, and/or anything celestial (stars, moon, sun, etc.)

I remember a website once where it'd let you draw up your own flag using the guidlines above, but I lost the link.

Oh well.

I hate talking about politics BUT...with all due respect....one can never label Americans as "Bible-humping"..beinng from the Northeast US, where 99% of people are liberal and against "bible humping" and Bush, we must rememeber that there are areas where religion is brought into politics hardcare, ie: Utah, Alabama, and the other redneck southern states. To Jem_Hadar: I can not stand them either!

I was not labelling the entire country, I was labelling the predominantly right winged bible belt states. The whole point of the thread is that the USA isn't only about that demographic. When Canadians bad mouth americans, they usually talk about what these states do. Crazy texan gunlaws are a big thing that too many canadians see as being typically american. What I'm trying to argue is that the stereotyping that many canadians cast on americans is really not what the states are all about. That in many ways, we are no better.
