What's happening with PvD?? (pg. 2)

A new PvD CD wil be released with Mixmag ni April. It should be good.
How anyone can say PvD is is beyond me. He still plays some of the best sets you'll ever hear. For every average one theres at least 10 brillant ones. |

the tracklist looks quite good, with a bit of variety... im sure a bunch of tpod tunes as well. |

hes good to see live, but I stopped listening to his live sets as he always plays the same stuff. I wish he would vary them a bit more and play some of his older stuff once in a while instead of just trying to be a crowd pleaser. |

you need to keep in mind that djs dont play sets so every one could dl them... |

why shouldnt they? It seems the top guys care alot about the rankings.. An avg person would only be able to see a Dj like PvD maybe twice a year. If his vote was only based on those two performances it wouldnt be fair.
also I am sure PvD knows that people DL his sets so he should make an effort. He is my favourite trance DJ but unfortunately he doesnt vary his track selection as much as the others. Their sets also stream on internet radio so they should keep in mind that people will be able to listen regardless. |

true.. but what im saying is all in my opinion. ;)For me, a good DJ will surprise you every time you go see him.. with new sounds, new tracks. The top guys Tiesto, AvB, PvD, etc seem to have set formulas they just repeat over..fair enough if you are seeing/hearing them for the first few times, but after a while it gets rather dull IMO |

You think paul wants you to vote him top dj because of some sets you download???
And I can confidently say that paul is one of the most varied djs in the world. Weather or not he plays these tracks at events such as Trance Energy/Sensation or like likes, is a different story. He is not about to go full on techno in places where people wouldn't probably accept it. I mean if you want variety you should look up some Fritz tracklists, a good amount of them have no trance at all.
look up his blue moon set, or rave satellite set. They are compleately different styles, with minimal amounts of melodic trance. |

his style within his set is varied i agree (trance, techno, hard dance). what i mean is that recently (since 2003) he has not been varying his track selection much between each set.
also his fritz show is more where he plays the tracks he likes, not that hes spins live.
Anyway I regret posting in this thread now as people seem to defend him at all costs. dont get me wrong, I really like PvD, but I can also recognize his faults. Do you not agree that he was better 3-4 years ago than he is now? |

Better, I don't know. It's hard to say something is better or worse now then in the past. Music has changed so has paul. I have a lot of friends that think paul sucks now since he doesn't play as melodic, as uplifting, as epic as in the past. Paul has always stuck with a tracklist for a while, and manipulated it. It is not something that happened after 2003. It just became more noticible when everyone starts whoreing every set. People say now he plays tracks twice in a set, he has always done that. His mixing has not changed. It is bassicaly the same style. I think the energy in his sets are the same, maby even a little better? It basically just comes down to what style of music you prefer. I like this Electronic/acid hard Techno/trance stage. I liked it when Tiesto played it, as well as Marco V.
Can you actually name some faults? I agree he does hold on to some tracks way to long, but that never has been a problem when I have seen him live. He also seems to have some Vocal production addiction atm, that is starting to annoy me, but I guess its a phase he is going through...
His sets still feel great when I listen to them, especially when he pulls some insane mix out of nowhere. And for me thats all that matters.
ps- paul does play most fritz tracks live. |
