fish problems

about 6 weeks ago my neighbour asked me to take care of her fish whilst she went away for reading week. well for personal reasons she has not been able to get her fish back and i have been stuck with them for the past month and a half and now one of the fish is doing wierd things.

it swims upside down and has problems maintianing its bouyancy. i have no idea whats wrong with it, i feed them as im supposed to and i change the water as im supposed to, but this little dude cant seem to swim properly. now the bigger fish keeps following him around i think he is slowly eating him alive. whats up with that? does anyone have any idea what the problem with these fish are, coz if the little one dies on me then ill be from my neighbour (well im scared for her fish to die in my care.) so any ideas on how i can stop him from floating all over the show and maybe also stop the bigger one from eating the smaller one.

What type of fish?

Does the tank have an aerator?

Are you putting in the drops to neutralize the chlorine?
Floorwhore
time to flush it....
rabbitjoker
Worse comes to worst, you can sell it to Red Lobster...
malek
if that fish has weird white dots on it or seems sick (colors changed), the best thing to do is to take it out of the pond and throw it. It might be a fungus/disease.

yes harsh, but its the only thing to do in order to save the rest.

im not sure what type of fish they are, they are gold and black striped.

no the tank doesnt have an aerator, its just a small fish bowl, there are only two of them,

and yes i do put the drops in to take care of the chlorine.

i really have no idea what the problem is, it started last week and it always seems to be the worst after i feed them, but i dont over feed them, just a tiny amount at the same time of day.

I'm only good at catching fish, not caring for them, so I have no idea.

However my brother had fish-bowl fish when he was young and the vet said that they are succeptable to "rot" where their scales get some bacteria and rot away.

In addition - the continual shock of being removed every day for a water change (you should change the water daily) will also effect them.

The healty fish will eat the weaker one if it is ill - food is food.

----------

I'd try changing the water every day, see what happens. Hopefully when the lady returns you can tell her to get a proper tank. Bowls are not the greatest housing for fishes.

Gamma is a far superior fisher than myself - so he might have additional thoughts. He caught this big bastard in the fall - so obviously he has the jedi-mind skill.

:wtf: damn, i been changing the water every fortnight, it never gets really dirty though, the water is still relatively clean when i change it. doing it everyday is way too time consuming

damn fish.

You don't change the water to clean it, you change the water to oxygenate it.

If the tank had an aerator then a weekly or bi-weekly change would work, but if it's a bowl, daily or ever-other-day is necessary.

i wish she had a dog.

bollocks.
