Very wrong! I shall ellaborate so that you see it beyond the just "its what I think" status...
1) You guys have MANY venues that take in big EDM names... Crobar, Spirit, Avalon-NYC, Webster Hall are the ones that roll off the tongue... There are others too probably... Boston has only Avalon! There's maybe one other club that can even compare to Avalon in size (Roxy) and it is not a very EDM-type of club... Hence on the basis of that, from having 4 BIG venues vs 1, we physically couldnt have as many names as you guys
2) The fanbase is much smaller in Boston than in NYC for EDM. So, less people come out per each big name that comes, so there's less $$ made, so there's less money to go around to spend on big names.
3) The basic facts: We get about 1 or 2 big names per month, sometimes none at all... NYC has SOMEONE big atleast somewhere EVERY weekend... I mean the list of names that have never come to Boston or have come once and have come on multiple occassions to NYC is large..
4) Finally, the percetion of NYC being a bigger city (which is in fact true) makes NYC a non-miss city on any east coast US tour for a DJ... Boston is big, but not a non-miss city, and if they are invited they will go, but it is not viewed as an essential place to stop by to really boost sales or develop a fan base... especially since plenty of people hop on the Chinese bus and go to NYC when a big name comes :)
Not a rant, just sorta my thoughts on the matter!
Also, bout Avalon-Boston, as a club its definitely better than Avalon-NYC from waht I've hearda bout it... However it is no Crobar or Spirit... I can promise you this though! Bring in a big name and the vibe is tight without a question... Each time AVB is here, the mood is just right! Carl Cox was here on Friday, and the mood was hott... come on a regular night and.. you might see something similar to Avalon-NYC... although again, I doubt to that extent!

I'd be up for Diggers.. except that.. I am headed up to Bal en Blanc in Canada to c Tiesto, Deep Dish, Benny B, Morales and so on... so I will only get back late Monday and will be dead tired.... however, there would be no other reason for me to miss Digweed.... and at Armin I shall be almost no matter what! :tongue3 |
