Totally disagree here. Today's trance sounds NOTHING like '99 trance (maybe a FEW exceptions). And if what you said was true, then wouldn't people NOT bitch about today's tracks if they were similar/based off of '99 trance which everyone loves so much? |
true but what i think he meant was that modern artists nowadays, as with any musicians, take ideas from music produced in the past and try to incorporate said ideas into their own music. louis armstrong mimiced a street vendor's wails in many of his trumpet improv's. the only difference is that the ty musicians don't make a valid enough of an effort to try and expand upon the previous ideas. that's what creativity is all about. |

| well, this hasn't exactly went where i wanted it to go, but whatever, its all interesting. I more less was wanting to focus on why people think old is always better than the new . Maybe i was unclear in my thread, i don't know. For the record, i think that the new trance is ing rocking this world, and I def. don't give a flying about anything that has been made in the past, cause really, faaack, why does it matter now?. Push through....get er done, that past, the phuture is now. |

| I like the current edm as well, i don't think that 99 has all that much on today. Just the same it's good to know where you came from musically, any great musician will tell you they were inspired to make their music by the musicians from the past. |

After a few years people realized the commercial potential that lies within EDM. It's been all downhill from there, not just for trance. And why do people keep saying that 1999 was the best year for trance? If anything, 1999 was the year trance started crashing down the endlessly downward spiral of creativity for real. |
Agreed, 1999 was, if anything, the beginning of the end. It was so commercially exploited that year, therefore many people were introduced to it and keep looking back and getting sentimental. 1993-1998 were the best years IMO. |

You must be deaf. I don't even think it is worth the time to explain it to you. |

Its just annoying when people post things, when they do not realise what they are talking about...
Its hard to describe something from the stand point of djing & producing(i don't do much producing) especially when others dont know anything other then that ASOT broadcasting now in English is the best thing that ever happened to this planet.
for example if i told him to open up 2 mp3s in traktor, hit the beat match button, 90% of the tracks on ASOT would probably match up perfectly with trance from 1999.
he would probably say, soooo what does that mean?
I asked Arksun, in the ASOT 2005 thread if he thought his track was one of the best this year. And he refused to answer. That is what i am talking about. If he said yes, i would have said thats cool. But he avoided it.
Avoiding that question imo means you thing your production sucks. At least stand up for it, and say what you enjoy about it.
Most trance producers take the basic outline. Try to put together some notes that sound good, then "poof" armin plays it. And everyone thinks the track is amazing. Even if the track means jack . And the producer himself knows this. |

"Until you know where you have been, you will never know where you are going."
Or some proverbial bull like that.;)
When it comes to music, it's always a good idea to know of the folks who set a standard. Quite often you'll hear ideas done years ago that are just being recycled and, as a result, those who dig deeper into the past will see just how innovative producers were in the earlier years, claiming the music was better as a result.
Or, for another example, why do you think there have been so many updates on older trance tracks this past year? |

| ASOT is great! Gives some people a chance to listen to a stream of trance songs selected by none other then Armin van Buuren! And if you enjoy listening to him then what is wrong with ASOT? I just think your taste might be a bit more complex then others. Why not just take that and feel better about yourself knowing someone that others may not instead of simply bashing and seeming upset that trance even exists in EVERY single post that you make on this forum? It gets old. |
