I for one don't give a about the music being supposedly better in 1995-9, that for one isn't true, there was as much back then as there is now... but everyone ONLY seems to remember the good stuff. Think back! Remember the stupid and you will see the light.

I only listen to what I like in any case Old/new whatever. All types of music has bad patches where for months only come out with one or 2 exeptions.

I know what you are saying. And im not bashing it, but can you say that the format of dutch/uplifting trance has changed since '99.

What good ol days? Good ol days is a category that genre elitists come up with to show how ing l33t they are and how long they have wasted listening to EDM. There is no good ol days, just when Sasha, Digweed, Warren, and Oakenfold played Trance and when we liked them much more. Music changes and it always will, I do love the old days because it reminds me of when I was much younger and much much more stupid. I say don't forget them or disregard their value to today's music but people older than me, tell me that the good ol days were mid 80's. Listen to what you like

andy i just think that the fact is that it was new, something different. now its just getting old. There isn't neccesarily something wrong with it, it just gets boring....

i mean has there been a "trance/music" innovation recently? it seems like everything is stagnent atm...

I was as guilty of it as anyone out there but I listen to whatever I like and I'm currently in the process of hunting down the CDs that I never got a chance to buy in the 1999-2002 era. Music will always change, I never saw people saying old classical was too old and dated. Music is something that usually stands the test of time I think.

There is many reasons why people say the music was better in the "good ol' days".. although the trance around these days is often good, and to the casual fan is pretty much the same as it was "back then", in reality it has slowly morphed into something a little different. Or at least what seems to be in vogue has at any rate.. so therefore the people who were into the old style are not so crazy about the new slightly different style! (like me ;))

what i mean is nowadays people are raving about different kinds of tracks, tracks with more 'proggy' elements, or whatever u wanna call it, tracks that arent so in yer face. also peoples tastes have inevitably changed, towards other genres, techno, breaks etc.. so for these people aswell, the new trance doesnt hold the allure of the old tunes.. theyve heard all they want from trance back then, and now are checking out other sounds.

anyway, my point of view - i prefer the old stuff cos imo that was just the perfect music! the new tunes are decent enough sometimes, but theye not so full on, epic, exciting & dramatic as the old days! i love the rush of a huge pad sequence and a insanely loud detuned mothering supersaw RIFF before an impossibly immense drum roll launches into the relentless beat of the tune :D the new stuff imo is DILUTED, maybe thats what people want now? but to me i want the real thing ;)

back then, in the golden years, 98-99, trance was so popular in the clubs, places like Passion would just erupt when Out Of The Blue was dropped.. and not being a know it all, but the atmosphere back then was a lot better than nowadays.. the music was basically a lot more FUN and i sometimes think it takes itself a bit too seriously these days.. u wanna go out and party and have a laugh!

not saying people dont have fun these days! but dont worry if the tune isnt a masterclass production, just have fun! thats what music is for!

yeah so also uve got the fact that a lot more people were into trance clubbing those days.. loads of my mates loved it back then, but now they dont go.. i met my girlfriend cos she used to love it in those days.. but now she doesnt really go so much.. etc etc

that last point is obviously not relevant to everyone, the whole association with good memories thing! so i am kind of cheating ;) but that should be able to make u see why a lot of people hold the good ol days in high regard!

i'm 24 now and have been listening to edm since '98. back then i was heavy into trance and thats all i listened to. straight up trance w/ huge build-up's and dreamy breakdown's, but as time went by i started going into other genres of edm so that kept me fresh to trance when i did go back and listen to it. over time my taste in edm hasn't changed much, but only that i prefer progressive more. when i'm in the clubs i'd love to listen to trance, but through out the day i'd much listen to prog.

= /

oh, and stop listening to only trance and you wont have this problem.
