you have to keep in mind that there are a few things we dont know here... Maybe the cops tried several times to talk them into getting out of the way but they wouldnt cooperate, maybe one or them or more were throwing stuff at the cops and attacking them, physically or verbally, even tough I somehow doubt that.. I have to agree that if they just jumped in and kicked the out of the sudents, well thats just wrong and primitive

something sure it kindda made me sad to see the students giving peace signs to the police at the end, like to show they werent there to cause trouble.. They looked pretty innofensive to me... :(

So I can't believe that people are not more appalled by this video. Sim and Bronze, come on guys. Put your feelings towards this strike aside for a second, and try to be objective here: under the Canadian constitution, your right to assemble and demonstrate peacefully is protected by the law. In other words, these students have the right to be there, and were expressing their points of view, peacefully. Their action, specifically blocking an entrance to a school, is something that's not illegal under the law, and in fact, is protected by the law, which is supposedely enforced on the streets by the police. If you follow my train of thought, it's obvious that someone violated their end of the democratic bargain, and it ain't the students.

We supposedely live in a democracy, not in some sort of tyrannical dictatorship where displays of peaceful dissent are visciously put down. Granted, we don't know exactly what caused the cops' reaction since the clip seems to be truncated, by unless there was some sort of physical attack on the cop, he is completely out of line. Verbal abuse does not warrant that kind of reaction, and I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL that this was yet another example of a cop gone overboard. He should be severely reprimanded.

As a side note starsearcher, when certain countries in the west are "participating" in a conflict "back home", it's competely rational to want to effect change through political means in that western country. These countries, as we all know too well, are not innocent bystanders in this conflict. Anyway, I won't say more on that here because this will not be yet another thread hijacked by an element of the MTLTA Arab community :p

Good post Razer.
that guy
these kids are spoiled brats. so instead of getting a part-time job or getting a loan, they want taxpayers to foot the bill. student debt is the lowest in quebec than any other province and yet they have the audacity to say that's it's unfair. education should be free but when it's the closest to free compared to any other province, you shouldn't really complain with an indefinite strike.

i hear this this morning about how the student leaders, who usually don't even have a regular course load, rejected having the semester stretch into june because it cuts into summer vacations. wtf is that, it's hurting everyone else. this is simply a pointless exercise in democracy aka playing extended hookey. i bet only 10% of these ppl really have their hearts into it.

We weren't talking about the students that took over the building. We were talking about the students in front of the building, peacefully demonstrating. That is most certainly NOT illegal.
