| It's a rip of the old version. 'Life on a Stick' was much funnier last night. |

There's a ten minute clip here for those interested:

Seems like a less funny, less subtle, less well-executed version of the original to me. A couple of funny moments ("You'll notice that I didn't have anybody be an Arab, I thought that would be too explosive - no pun intended") but it's not going to compare to the original. |

Yeah, once you have seen the original version, it is hard to watch the new US version like last night.
They seem to be trying to couple the plots and characters exactly as they were - you can't watch it like a normal show because you are constantly trying to compare it to the British original. The original characters are much better in my opinion. |

That's something that seemed to come across in the American version as well. In the British version, David Brent was just so pathetic and so desperate for attention and approval from his peers that you couldn't help but pity him no matter how offensively he was acting. In the American version, they just seem so intent on portraying the manager as a clueless jerk that you don't want to laugh at him or cringe at the things he does, you just want to ing hit him.
As Monty Python put it, "so much for pathos!" :eyespop: |
