Starting DJ and i'm clueless on equipment

| i dunno who else to ask, and you guys are the gurus so here goes. i've been into trance for about 4-5 years now and i have been screwing around with those mock dj programs you get on yoru computer. ive always wanted to do the real thing but i am WAY short on cash and couldnt dream of offording vinyl for a long time. i was wondering if there were any good CD decks that are worth the money that wont cost you a testicle. thanks in advance |

Vinyl isn't that expensive and the turn tables are usually much cheaper for vinyl. But if you want CD players then the most common ones are from Pioneer like the CDJ 1000 which run from $950 to $1000 when new. CDJ 800's are $1000 when new and $600 on the internet. The other most common one from Pioneer that is trusty and used alot is the CDJ 100 which has less options but will get the job done from around $300 to $500. Denon also has some nice ones like the DN-D6000 again $1000 but cheaper on the net. Stanton S-550 Dual CD Player is great if your looking for something much cheaper, about $500 to $600 in store and like $200 on the net. The Denon DND4000 is around the same price range as that Stanton. If your just thinking about vinyl then your most common turntables are usually Technics SL 1200's MK5's and 1210's. 1200's are about $500 nad 1210's about about the same.
Mixers can again be Pioneer like the DJ-M300 will be your best ebt when your starting out, these are about $400 in shop $200 to $300 on the net. It's a simple two channel mixer that will do what you need it to. The DXM03 from Numark is another nice two channel one. These are both fader mixers but nice rotary ones are slammin' but a bit more expensive although a Vestax one like PMC 46 MK2 runs pretty cheap. You can even get an Ashton MXL6, it's a 6 channel mixer for just $100 to $200.
As for headphones; they just need to be comfortable and reliable. Pioneer HDJ 1000's are cool. As well as great ones from Sony, Sennheiser and all you favourite electronic equipment brands.

| so if it were you in my situation. a highschooler with a 9$ an hour job, who has to pay for his car and phone would you just save up a bit longer and just get vinyl or start out on CDs to get the job done and "upgrade" to vinyl later on. keep in mind that i am not doing this for a career purpose. i simply love the music and would liek to be able to spin sets or what not, play for a group of friends at best or whatever. not looking to go world known DJ here or anything. just want to spin. |

I have a friend with a pair of American DJ CD decks that he seems to be pretty happy with. I don't think they're too expensive, and a decent mixer should only run you about $200-$300. You might also want to check out this CD deck to see if it has the features you want. You should be able to get a good system (two decks and mixer) for under $800 if you shop around. As for the mixer, I personally love my Numark Matrix3, which seems to have awesome quality, 3 channels + mic, all the features you need and even an FX Send fader (although no built-in FX).
Looks like you can get all this for about $600 after tax and shipping. Definitely a good starter system, but just warning you -- within a few months you'll be itching for some real turntables. If you can afford the real deal, it's worth every penny. |

| I bought a mixer and a pair of CD decks for 435 quid (convert that), and an amp and speakers for £180. So it cost £625 to get a decent set-up to learn on. You don't need sparkly equipment to learn on, especially if you're spinning CDs. Vinyl DJs are obviously best of getting a pair of Tech-12s, but you can learn to mix on fairly crap CD players. The hard part is learning a new set of controls when you finally get a gig somewhere that has good kit. |

I would probably buy a couple of vinyl turn tables that I find real cheap somewhere on the net or electronics store. As well as a simple 2 channel mixer on the internet. |

| why always the techs!!! st-150 or synq xtrm-1 are cheaper and better. Ok they didnt have the time yet to prove them selves if they can be as sturdy and reliable as techs. but i think u should take that into consideration too |

is it necessary to spend 457406875035$ on headphones? a while back i bought some Sony something-or-others at FYE for like 20$ and it was possibly the best 20 ive ever spent on headphones. they were the best quality ive ever heard except for those 600$ pairs at sharperimage. i mean do you REALLY need that great quality in your headphones while your djing? i dont see why you'd need to, i mean yeah you need something decent not some earbuds, but i think what i have will do.
