| WTF? I installed it a month ago and activated it, I formatted since then and it's asking me to activate it again but it won't let me because it's the same one I used a month ago. |

complaining about it here prevents me from having to phone microsoft at 4am and if the tech support is even available i'll likely be on hold for a heap of time. "complaining about it" here is obviously to get help from people, not to get dumbass remarks but thanks. |

the activation code for windows is set in such a way that everytime you re-install windows, you have to get a new activation number, no number will ever be used twice. my friend has had to reinstall xp on his computer 3-4 times just in the last couple of months, and everytime he has to get a new activation code...i'm using his copy of xp right now, and all you have to do is call in and give them the cd key, and get the activation code again....it's best if you phone it in. and they are open 24 hours a day, i think the same call center gives out activation keys for microsoft's global XP home edition... |

what I do when I need to activate windows is take a walk into a nearby computer lab.
This computer lab is full of computers that run Red Hat linux. Frotunately for me(but unfortunately for the poor slobs who had to buy those machines) Micorsoft required them to buy windows licenses for all those computers. Each one of those machines has a sticker on it with a working activation number. Every time I need one, I just walk in there and write it down. I figure, the kids in the lab arent using those windows codes, I might as well prevent those poor lab builders who had to buy machines bundled with windows from wasting their money by never using those expensive little stickers.
I probably shouldnt have shared that though, now all sorts of ppl will try it and the stickers will stop working.
