| for all you dj's out there, i was just thinking what everybody thought about what things it takes to earn the true title of "dj?" How much of an understanding do you have to have about the music and things like that. just curious... |

live and breath the music... feel it, know it, live it, love it. also grow a mullit and a mustache so the chicks will flock after ya, hey it worked with oakie (the mullit anyway) haha...
but seriously, love the music, get good at reading a crowd and do your job well. then youre a real dj. |

all you have to do is change songs in winamp and your a DJ.
or at least people seem to think so these days..
no seriously though.. I'd say to be a DJ, you have to own your own equipment, including decks and mixer. I know how to mix, do it everyday on my computer, and quite a bit on real decks at my friends places. but I will still consider myself a wannabee until I get what I got in my sig down there. |

| I think you can call yourself a DJ when you play @ party's. ( not only Big Part's little party's 2 ) |

technically when can put two songs together without a break.
but for me you aren't a dj until you've got vinyl and only when you're good. |

| I think if you can make people dance and have an audience in your control you're a DJ. |

what if u get ugly broads too? I get em all!(and turn em all down)
really I think to be a DJ, performing the art of mixing 2 songs in a physical form live makes u a DJ. Ie, CD or vinyl, not MP3z |

The moment you become a DJ is the moment you can approach a mixer, and mix any two tracks decently. The music source shouldn't matter.
Either that, or the moment you leave the mixer after your first live set :D |

I would say that being a DJ is having the ability to take a bunch of songs, put them in a certen(logical) order and mix them together so that the final output will sound as one whole song.
The other requierment is the love of the music, you might be able to mix really good but if you don't love \ enjoy the music, your not a real DJ. (althogh)
