Trance is becoming much the same isn't it?

The Drow
I'll say we cuz I'm talking about all of the producers (including me).

The drum pattrens are ussually the same.
About the basses must stick to the off-beat basses or some other known pattrens,
We use the same waveforms for leads (saws, sines, squares),
The melodies are getting less powerful but we still got the atmosphere, the feeling.
One of the main problems are that we are limited to those waveforms (for now).
All of the vocals are about love and stuff and of course I know that trance is about it. But it's about other things too don't you think?
We're becoming like limited like rock/pop/rap aka mainstream (drums, guitar, guitar, bass guitar, vocalist and maybe piano)
Do you think it's time for an originality brust?

[Please DON'T GIVE spesific examples, I don't wanna start a flamewar here]

It will change, it just has to evolve

yes, it's part of a genre and the genre is defined by certain characteristics.

it's like saying all rnb sounds the same. of course it does, for the most part.

if it wasn't much of the same it'd be something else ;)

the sound itself can/will envolve, but only so much before it's no longer recognisably trance.
The Drow
it will be trance.
we got 303s, saws, sines, squares, noises and the rest are varaiations of those.

imagine getting a completly new sound.
i mean we can't relay on supersaws cuz eventually it will become cheezy as hell. im not sure it isn'y cheeze right now.

The first thing trance producers have to do to make stuff not sound so similar to one another is to stop using the friggin' Ferry Corsten Trance Presets in all their software. After that, hell, there's no telling where trance will head next!

And to all the new cats that say it wouldn't be trance if you used different sounds...
paranoik0
is becoming?
kr00t0n
those things tend to be what defines trance, anything different becomes a new genre/subgenre

and I say this LOOSELY, so no one start banging on about how today's trance isn't like the real hypnotic trance from baaaack in the day, etc :D
Zayatz
it has become long time ago...

Originality is key for success, but it's not easy to be original these days and presets are main problem.Making your own sounds lead to originality.

No doubt. Whenever I look for new, innovative trance, I end up finding it in the reggae dub sections.:wtf:

Blue.
All music is sounding the same. Music has been around forever and now it's easier to make so more people are getting into it. With everyone making music it's bound to sound like almost everything else because so much has been done with music before already.
