yeah, jump the next train... thats probably one of the most stupid songs ive ever heard in my life, and yet people ate it up like corn flakes. why?
*edit* i concur with the above rules. yet another suburban train was a complete disaster. |

well, being the poor trance-starved boy that i am, i havent heard this yet. from memory, urban train was the first trance song i ever downloaded, so it has a special place in my heart and am a bit protective of it. so im curious but sceptical ;)
dave- there are crap songs in every genre of music that lots of people end up liking. we still dont know why ;) haha- made my evening hearing jump the next train at halo when you guys were here, after youd started that thread dedicated to its hatred the week before :stongue: |

DJ Tiesto - In My Memory
another great vocal tune |

perhaps vocals often work better in trance when a 'trance remix' of a vocal track is done? ie. silence- the focus was on the vocals and lyrics initially and as such they are near perfect (make that perfect in silence, no one can deny the power of this song!) in which case, they are going to sound neither cheesy nor crap as trance track.
i suppose vocals can help create a mood or thought which is why too many in a set (or one after another after another) can make it seem too choppy and ruin flow and not enhance each vocal track sufficiently.
my faves:
oakenfold- southern sun
andain & motorcycle vocalists
sarah mclachlan and sinead o'connor lend themselves beautifully to vocal trance tracks.
male vocals can be awesome though! underworld sound really trippy, the killers vocalist sounds similar. love them both. |

again this whole discussion falls down to personal opinion. There isn't a set benchmark that things fall into to determine a good tune from a bad one. The listener makes up his or her mind based on what gives them the tingles. On that note, I think vocals are great and yes, they can sometimes make or break a tune. But I guess it's all about how it's done and whether it suits the listener(s) own musical taste etc..
Lovely. rock on! |

thanks for the example- another song i reckon is RUINED by the vocals. so um, yeah. i guess i am denying the power of this song :p
i agree with pana, is *does* come down to personal taste. however, on the flipside, no one is gonna take me seriously if i tell them i can paint better than rembrandt. there *are* standards in art. music would be the same. so whilst what one likes/dislikes can come down to personal taste, the over-all \"goodness\" of a tune is more than just preference. its the same as appreciating a song/genre that you dont like i guess- you can see it has worth even if it dont make you tingle. |

| yeah exactly.. whilst music is art and art is what's "in the eye of the beholder".. although one man's trash could very well be another man's treasure, there still must be some merit to a certain peice of art to ensure its overall quality. that said, you can't just pigeon hole every single critic and say something like "this whole discussion falls down to personal opinion". because there will always be that level that needs to be reached. even though i feel it hardly is anymore in trance. |

Once again we have here a case of DJs blaming producers, ain't that right Dave ;)
So somebody creates a vocal trance track, sounds great, and then there's 10 remixes of it, half probably don't have the vocals. DJs can buy what they want, choose to play what they want, including how many vocal tracks in a row, 'should i play the vocal version of this tune etc.'
So DJs stop beating off on vocal trance producers! Can't blame one vocal trance song for your crowd deflating - gotta blame the DJ :whip: :whip: Drop a vocal track at the right time and the crowd'll be gushing and gurning.
And by the way, bring back JvA's massive vocal anthem sets! Yeah baby! |

Can someone explain to me why No one on earth was considered a good track? Please write 2-300 words analysing the lyrics and tell me they arent complete tripe. Please.
I want to understand why people though this track was good.
Incase it wasnt clear, im in the vocals suck 99% of the time camp. |
