are humans actually monogomous animals? or is it all just a big lie based on traditional and archaic values?

women are monogamous & men are suckers.

taking the question as are we monogomous (only tend towards having one lover) by nature, i'd say no
its all just male/female reproductive rolls (coming from an evolutionary standpoint) the general goal in life is to produce successful offspring. naturally, the more we can produce, the better the odds of having someone successfully carry on your genes. so women can only reproduce once ever 10 months or so. males can, well, every few minutes theoretically.
however, if a man slept with a woman, then left and went to someone else and ignored the first woman, the first woman would have no one to protect both her and her child. its in the woman's best interest to keep the man around to protect her. however, the man wants to ensure that the child grows up and carries on his gene, so its also to some extent in his best interest to stay with the first woman. granted if he just ed another woman every 5 minutes, probably someone would grow up and spread his genes, but he'd probably never see it.
so to ensure you have successful offspring, its generally in both the male and female best interest to stay together and practice monogamy, but there are also advantages (that also happen to go better with carnal instincs) that go against monogomy

Agreed. If an objective alien scientist were classifying the animal species of this planet into categories of "monogamous" and "polygamous" there's no question where humans would end up, heh. Even those humans who do remain monogamous generally have to repress urges to behave otherwise - genuinely monogamous species have no such urges (otherwise they would act on them.)

science aside. Men just want to root around. Let the women look after the offspring while the men go out & hunt. the man should have 10 wives but never stay at home long enough to hear one of them whinge.

For the most part humans are monogamous. There are exceptions, just as there is in any other case. You'll find any other kind of animal that is dubbed monogamous has many more exceptions to this rule than humans do. On the other side, there are cases where polygamous animals have monogamous relationships which last throughout their life (this is much a much rarer happening in most species though, of course).

Ive honestly never dated a girl that I never ended up cheating on. But I hope that changes in the future.:(

monogamy is a traditional/religious belief

from an evolutionary viewpoint, humans are not monogamous animals. the male will find as many mates to pass on his genetics and the female will pick selectively which male of a given population is the best to give him her cherry.
