| Oh okay. Final Fantasy does have good music. Actually, many of those Japanese hentai/anime video games. Even movies. |

and the soundtrack for the beloved Xenogears. |
Hideyuki Eto deserves an honorable mention when it comes to people involved with video game music...I'm actually not sure what games his music was featured in, but I know he produced a large amount of stuff for video games during the snes era, so I would guess his stuff is on SNES games. I also have a couple of his regular techno records, which are fair, but not spectacular. |

Then I guess you don't remember it right. I like them both alot, they brought progressive house more to the public and all that... but they're not the greatest. |

On the sasha digweed topic, I'd like to add that its not so much people whoring their renaissance stuff that I hate so much. I mean I can understand why people think http://www.discogs.com/release/100874 is so great, although again, they didnt pioneer that sound quite as much as people like to think they did. Its more of a matter that they were promoted best and hit the right timing when people were ready to start liking that kind of music.
Anyways, what bothers me most is the whole Involver/ADD thing. I mean come on, Involver was a series of tracks, most of which were not selected too creatively, you didnt see sasha really trying to play records by artists nobody had heard before...I mean, thats what a pioneer does right? Unkle, Shpongle, Ulrich, and whatever else are all quite successful and well known artists already. All of the tracks were remixed in a mediocre manner. Some remixes better than other, I will give him credit for adding his own flavour to each track though. Then to finish it off, they were all mixed together via Abelton. The mixing was fair enough (it usually is when a dj uses abelton...)the "flow" was...bleh. But of course everybody is going all nuts over it.
Then ADD. I won't go into detail about this one, but everbody is always talking about how fresh the sound is, and how deep and complex and "layered" it is. Come on, its nothing special. The sound isnt new or fresh. The tracks arent extremely complex or well produced. Its just fair. The only difference is that people here will go out and buy a sasha cd, because they know him, and they dont know the artists who have been doing a similar style for years. When it comes to production complexity, again, they only think that because they have nothing to compare it to.
Oh , and I just remembered. Sasha won best producer or best artist poll on here like a month ago didnt he? See? I mean there are tens of thousands of djs and producers out there better than him...its just the people on this site dont listen to any of them, because their work isnt shoved right in their face. I guess thats part of it all though. I mean britney spears was never the best singer. |

awesome post beats and beeps. best I've read in a while. I've always said this and will say it again.
It's the same with Tiesto. I mean just look at Traffic. It's a horrible, awful, utter pile of . But since it says Tiesto on the sleeve every kid goes nuts "OMFG IT'S TIESTORZ MUST BE THE BOMB!".
What if the tune was produced by an uknown fat kid from the northern parts of Finland? Would the tune still sell as much if it sayd "Pekka Kallio" on the cover? Don't think so!
It's all about promotion and popularity. I can understand that that is the case when it comes to pop music. But when EDM music is infected by those kind of ideas then i'm disgusted. When DJs go out and promote themselves as popstars and superstars yet again I'm disgusted. When Sasha wins best EDM producer ever poll I don't know to laugh or cry. Maybe I should laugh since most people only heard one Sasha tune, preferably Xpander and thinks OMFG Sasha is the legendzorz! Or maybe they see his name in various hall of fame occasions and believe he is a king or something.
He is just as Tiesto, a good promoter letting others do the heavy job for him. Tiesto use a strong crew made up by Geert Huinink, Alco Laamers, Ronald Van Gelderen and DJ Montana which makes almost all his productions. But he is the guy with the big smile which stands behind the wheels to deliver all the tunes. Still people believe that he is the mastermind behind all productions.
Same thing with Sasha. |

there is the commercial music industry as a whole, for you. although it sure can get worse than that...
anyway, there is no telling the people that whore the guys at the top. posts like yours and beats and bleeps and ones that many others have written, should start to shed some light on what goes on, but most people wont have it. ignorance is bliss.
just be thankful your not at that stage anymore, or that you even were. :toothless |
