thats the #1 killer. not following up on your contacts, if you cant do that, you are only hurting yourself in terms of becoming more succesful.

maybe dont call them up the next day, but send emails, write texts, make calls, and make sure they remember ur name, worst is calling someone up too late and they are like, wait, who is this again?

and its happened.

i've been telling him and danny o to just come down to the club with a cd and they'll pretty much have a guaranteed booking, i still haven't seen any cds from them yet

i'd even listen to theirs before the huge stack i have sitting right here in front of me

Yea I'm sorry about that man, I gotta turn over a new leaf and do things right away, I'll get a CD to ya soon enough, although I prefer to just spin to you live (atleast I'd be DJing to somebody instead of my wall), but anyway I'll get ya one, these past few weeks I been trying to get my car back on the road, about an hour ago I've found out for sure that its FOOKED, so now I gotta get a new car, which is good, but bad cos that will eat a huge amount of my money that I'd rather spend on vinyl and gear.

Why can't I just be naturally rich.:(

I have done a few things.

FirstBorn offered very good advice. Find out promoters and give them your demo. Alot of promoters are looking for an innovative original sound, different from the tunes everyone is hammering atm.

Looks like you might be hosting an all TA linup:D. As for me its probly to early to start sending out demos since im only 14! Although im lucky that my brother has some friends who might be able to hook me up, wouldnt count on it though.

age is no matter. im 16, and ive played for 2 500+ people outdoor parties (lots of small ones with freinds, but they dont count) and 4 club nights. its not a lot, but its something, and ive got another gig coming up here in bombay next week.

if you put forth the effort - you will go far. as long as you think you are good enough, you can do it. anyone can. confidence is keyy.

Thanks mate. :)

The only other thing I'd add is not to get discouraged if you get knockbacks from promoters. Persist and it will pay off.

A quick anecdote: I was at a club last Friday night and got talking to the promoter of a local trance night. We chatted for a while and eventually I got round to mentioning I was a DJ. I offered her a demo CD and she laughed and said no chance: she was fully booked for DJs right up until the end of the year. We carried on talking about other stuff for a while and then at the end of the conversation, I offered her a CD anyway, from one trance music lover to another, just for listening pleasure, on a no-strings-attached basis. Two days later, I had an email from her saying how much she loved the CD and that she'd "find space" to book me.

The point is that had I just given up when she declined the demo, I wouldn't've got the gig. Instead, with a little gentle persistence, a rejection was turned into a booking.

I haven't really begun, This is what I had in mind to start

Get a Job in a Music Shop IE Checmical Records, HMV, Whatever
Talk to the Staff, Suppliers, Labels and Customers.

Get a Job at the Warehouse Distribution Centre supplying Decks, Vinyl, Synths Whatever
Talk to the Staff, Suppliers, Labels and Customers

Produce your tracks and send them to Various Labels, On a Successful Deal, pocket as much info and network from there.

That way, I've Covered both Day and Night(The Traditional Way) 7 days a week to market myself :D

Dude go to all the clubs that play the same style of music as yourself intoduce yourself to the DJ's make friends with them and give a good demo to them. if this doesnt work you need to do a better demo you should update your demo every 4 to 5 weeks to make sure your tunes are all fresh...dont be over confident but make sure your enthusiastic

ok, i agree with this to an extent, if the dj is well hooked up and does promotion work as well, but otherwise, what dj wants to give up his spot? thats what ur post entails. you need to meet promotors, bookers, club owners, party organizers and those type of people, make those people love you.
