i myself don't like getting demos filled with all the latest tunes
any wanker can go buy all the newest promos and releases and throw a cd together

i like to hear a good mix of new and old tracks, i'm all about set flow and how the cd comes together as a whole
it's good to expose the crowd to new tunes but at the same time you want to give them a few they have heard before and can relate to

don't sit there and hammer out all the newest tunes, tell me a story

if a club is properly set up no dj will have to give up his spot majority of clubs will have at least 1 free set each week to allow for new dj's ans guests...I have recently started djing in a club in melbourne..where i started just doing opening sets once a month as long as you are well prepared for your set and play well for the first couple of gigs you will slowly make your way into the main stream of things i am now playing between 2-4am i couldnt be happier

Dude, you just got me out of a HUGE funk... thank you...

My set for RSnext weekend will hopefully reflect that...

Thank you again, you have no idea how much that made sense to me at the time I read it...

dude that is fine. I am looking into opening a club in the next 3 years i know everybody says that is what they are going to do but i really think i can make it happen. The club scene in melbourne is very divided half of the ravers go to hard trance clubs and the other half go to hard dance clubs i want to create something that caters for both by playing things like UK hard trance, uk hard dance and techno...

Creating a club is simple...

Managing the club is a pain in the ass...

THE BEST WAYS TO MARKET YOURSELF AS A DJ
1. MAKE YOURSELF KNOWEN TO THE OWNERS AND PROMOTERS AND THE OTHER DJS

2. MAKE YOUR SELF APPROACHABLE TO THEM ie. dont hang out in big crowds of people when you are at their club or they will feel as if they are disturbing you.

3. GIVE OUT A GOOD DEMO PREFERABLY IN KEY. (MARK THE CD CLEARLY WITH YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER)

4. DONT GET YOURSELF REALLY MUNTED THIS WILL NOT SET A GOOD IMPRESSION

5. NO MATTER HOW CONFIDENT YOU ARE DONT COME ACROSS LIKE YOU KNOW EVERYTHING PROMOTERS AND CLUB OWNERS DONT LIKE THIS

6. NO MATTER HOW BORED YOU ARE WITH THE CONVERSATION YOU ARE HAVING WITH THESE PEOPLE MAKE SURE YOU LOOK REALLY INTERESTED

7. DONT COMPARE THE CLUB THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO GET A GIG AT WITH ANY OTHER GIG YOU HAVE EVER PLAYED AT YOU DONT WANT TO COME ACROSS AS A DJ SLUT

8. IF ASKED WHERE YOUR FAVORITE NIGHT SPOT IS MAKE SHORE YOU SAY THE CLUB THAT YOU ARE GOING FOR THE GIG AT IS YOUR FAVORITE EVEN IF IT ISNT

9. AFTER YOU FIRST GIG DONT EXPECT TO BE A REGULAR DJ YOU WILL HAVE TO CONTACT THE OWNER OR PROMOTERS TO ARRANGE OTHER GIGS THEY MAY NOT CONTACT YOU

10. MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS HAVE FRESH SETS DONT GET HUNG UP ON A COUPLE OF GOOD MIXERS LIKE SOME DJS ALWAYS PLAY DIFFERENT TRACKS

i know that the only problem is the fact that all the melbourne dance scene is so split up so it will be hard to peel these people from the clubs that they have become regulars at

dude the thing is that you have to have something that makes you unique..i myself like to play fresh tracks all the time all my music is imported from the uk and most of what i have hasnt and usually doesnt make it over to australia. If you play old classics you become one of those dj's that is predictable and lets face it who wants to listen to a dj play and know what he is going to play each set keep people in suspence let them feel what you are feeling its about the crowd working off of you, remember you are the dj you run the crowd they dont run you

DJ 00 Tommy
Im soon looking to put forward a demo im mainly aiming to start off in underage clubs etc i like playing Hard Trance & Hard House. Portian im trying to get my first gig at metro underage, since your in melbourne you most probly know what it is. Would you think it is a nice start for me?

Actually for me when playing to a crowd, the crowd has a huge impact on what I spin, I have certain records that I decide I WILL drop, but I mainly read the crowd, drop afew good tracks that vary abit and see the reaction to each of those tracks, if nothing then change it up or down depending oh what direction you feel it needs to go, then when you find the sound that the crowd responds to, give it your all, and make sure you leave the decks with the crowd wanting more.

On abit of a side note, does anyone else find it easier to play a nice flowing set to people compared to spinning to your room/wall?, I find it soo hard to just spin to myself, theres no inspiration and nothing to react to.
