Alrighty then, let's welcome this UBER-Conservative Nazi Pope in, shall we? I mean, who wouldn't want someone in who says these types of things:
| quote: | | It is deplorable that homosexual persons have been and are the object of violent malice in speech or in action. Such treatment deserves condemnation from the church’s pastors wherever it occurs. It reveals a kind of disregard for others which endangers the most fundamental principles of a healthy society. The intrinsic dignity of each person must always be respected in word, in action and in law. |
So far so good, right?
Uhh, U-TURN!!!:
| quote: | | ‘But the proper reaction to crimes committed against homosexual persons should not be to claim that the homosexual condition is not disordered. When such a claim is made and when homosexual activity is consequently condoned, or when civil legislation is introduced to protect behavior to which no one has any conceivable right, neither the church nor society at large should be surprised when other distorted notions and practices gain ground, and irrational and violent reactions increase (No. 10). |
Woohoo! It's not like we already have GOP Senators and Congressmen who condone violence against judges or anything! Thank God Almighty we now have a Pope doing the same against homosexuals! Yippie!
Oooh, forgot this nugget too:
| quote: | | 8. "What is at all costs to be avoided is the unfounded and demeaning assumption that the sexual behavior of homosexual persons is always and totally compulsive and therefore inculpable. What is essential is that the fundamental liberty which characterizes the human person and gives him his dignity be recognized as belonging to the homosexual person as well’ (No. 11). |
Hail to the Pope!

Well I do think his history is a bit revealing and relevant, but okay, I'll drop it for now.

It's not his stance against homosexuality that I am against. Granted, that's certainly a given. However, what he says the following with my own emphasis:
| quote: | | But the proper reaction to crimes committed against homosexual persons should not be to claim that the homosexual condition is not disordered. When such a claim is made and when homosexual activity is consequently condoned, or when civil legislation is introduced to protect behavior to which no one has any conceivable right, neither the church nor society at large should be surprised when other distorted notions and practices gain ground, and irrational and violent reactions increase (No. 10). |
To me that's unacceptable to say that violent behavior against homosexuals is to be expected, and directly contradicts his previous paragraph that I cited.
What's more, I don't have it on me directly but there are polls out there that demonstrate an increasing majority of Catholics are becoming more (gasp!) liberal - and the views on homosexuality is one particular case in which more Catholics believe the church should accept them. To hire a very ultra-conservative Pope goes directly against this mainstream majority view.
And yes, Kansas makes me very bitter!!!:whip: |

I'd reply with something witty if it probably wasn't so damn true. |

Sadly, such an appointment (can a person be both very and ultra at the same time?) would probably happen more than 5 times out of 10 before they'd put a black pope in office. |

It matters not, we're both married. I stopped caring about my looks a long time ago! |
