That's odd considering that Billy threw a fit when people classified them as "alternative" after Dookie came out. I saw him on TV everywhere screaming... "we're punk, we're punk". My personal opinion is that they may have started out punk but they've main streamed so much you can hardly call it that anymore. Just like Blink 182, what a in' joke. Punk is a set of ideas, not a style, people just associate the set of ideas with a certain sound so people say something is or isn't punk based on their sound. |

Most people don't get that. The Clash was one of the greatest punk bands ever but most of their stuff sounds nothing like what most people think punk should sound like. |

perhaps you are ignorant to their older stuff , they used to be punk rock...their style and sound has changed over the years and now they sound more pop/new age/alternative/whatevertheyouwannacallit rock. Please do not ever compare greenday to ashlee, avril simple plan or any others like that ever again it makes me want to puke just thinking about it. Punk most certainly is a genre of music, although it wasn't meant to be so much when it started...it can also be a style or way of thinking. There are a few 'styles' of music that are also like this...Metal, Grung, HipHop, etc. |

i don't know .. i consider them both ..
from their old album, 'dookie' and 'basket case' sounded punk in my opinion .. then 'time of our lives' went like mellow rock or something like that .. 'american idiot' sounded punk, 'b.o.b.d.' sounded mellow rock .. now 'holiday' sounds punk to me ..
