You know, like the prescribed drugs =p.
How are they? Do they work? What type?
I know alot of people are against taking pills, I am one of them... Especially taking pills for depression since it's much deeper (I think fixing what's making you depressed w/ out the pills is what is needed).
Anyway. Anxiety seems to be a much, much harder issue to control.
So, anyone?

I take Citalopram (celexa in us) on 60mg a day
How does it work?
This medicine contains the active ingredient citalopram, which is a type of antidepressant known as a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI). This type of medicine acts on nerve cells in the brain. In the brain there are numerous different chemical compounds called neurotransmitters. These act as chemical messengers between the nerve cells. Serotonin is one such neurotransmitter and has various functions that we know of. When serotonin is released from nerve cells in the brain it acts to lighten mood. When it is reabsorbed into the nerve cells, it no longer has an effect on mood. It is thought that when depression occurs, there may be a decreased amount of serotonin released from nerve cells in the brain. SSRIs work by preventing serotonin from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells in the brain. This helps prolong the mood lightening effect of any released serotonin. In this way, citalopram helps relieve depression, panic and fear. It must be taken for at least 14 days before the benefits of treatment begin to appear and you start to feel better.
What is it used for?
# Condition of sudden attacks of fear, panic and confusion (panic disorder)
# Depression |

| i took Lorazepam and celexa but not now .......BUT only take them as a last resort. Try to stay away from those types of medications. The efects are not always pleasant. Try and seek other methods anxiety/panic clinics, naturopath etc etc. Good luck |

i dont think those people should be allowed pills but thats just my opinion.
my ex took some, and they helped him. he only took them when he REALLY needed it, or when a really bad anxiety attack him him. i felt bad for him, but its all psychological in the end.. you just gotta tell your mind otherwise. you're the one in control. not some pill. |

Not true, I do think a lot of people out there are "over-medicated" and don't really need the drugs they're prescribed...they may only need psychological help. Then again I think some people really do have certain inbalances in their brains that require medication. |

:stongue:
The results will be traumatic if a person is on a pill for a long regular amount of time and suddenly is unable to access it. :( |

It seems that most people are against taking meds for depression, and with this I also agree.
Yet, Anxiety and Depression are two totally different imbalances of the brain (Anxiety usually does often lead to depression in most cases).
IMO, depression is often a root problem that can be found and worked on with time. Anxiety issues come with stigma's, socially, etc. A sort of "eagerness".
I say you can can either
A. smoke or drink to escape temporarily like many do
or
B. try to find a way to work on it so that it's permanent (if you try everything and those don't work, then yes, I think pills will have to be the last option).
So my thus this thread... Curious if bad anxiety got better with time, w/ meds, (even if taking meds were a trial and temporary thing).

think my post was a little misunderstood.
i mean popping a pill to fix a problem is pathetic. such as if you are depressed and simply take pills every morning, you're not solving the problem you're making it go away.
i have major disdain for the feeling in society like "got a problem? take a pill" |
I completely agree with you on this. you gotta be able to face your problems, come to grips with them. not just escape through some sort of drug. even though....
some forms of anxiety are chemical imbalances that must be treated with a pill.
it'd be nice to pop some valium whenever i get nervous though. |
