WOOOAAAAAH GUYS!
Stop a minute there.
There is a hell of a difference between the things we are talking about here.
First up, what first poster was asking about was a performance enhancing drug. Very different kettle of fish to the creative/recreational drugs that give rise to artistic ideas.
Prescribed, scheduled or what ever, we are still talking drugs in one way or another.
I can understand people who take drugs to make you happy and have a better time.
I have played sports at a good level and can understand, even if I don't agree with athletes who take performance enhancing drugs to reach the top of their game.
What you are talking about is a short cut to becoming a better DJ. It's a slippery slope as it is being a DJ surrounded by booze, drugs and easy sex (makes it sound a lot better than it is). Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pro abstinance, T-Total straight edge person but I have burnt the candle at both ends and tell you now that the more you climb the harder some things get to deal with.
As a DJ it's easy to drink too much and take illeagal substances to a degree that can ruin your life. Some of my old colleagues from way back in the day are either dead or recovering alchoholics/drug abusers or still totally ed evertime I see them. Some are either HIV positive or dead from AIDS. That's not to say that all my DJ colleagues have gone this way but a few have and it's not a ing joke, this business has a very ugly side that can destroy you forever.
So this idea that digital is the evil in this business.
Staring at the bottom of a glass feeling like you are about to be sick with some equally smashed female who you have no idea who she is, giving you head simply because your mate was too wasted to her. Your jaw is aching because some tosser sold you what he claimed was cocaine and it turned out to be speed and you have been gurning your off for the past 4 hours whilst trying to string a half arsed set together feeling frustrated and angry with the world but you have no clue why.
Or you find out that one of your mates has collapsed and died from a bad pill... That's the dark side.
Don't do performance enhancing drugs to DJ. Learn the skills needed as it will make you a better alround DJ. If you haven't got the skill, it's not going to make you better, it's just going to numb you to your skills when you haven't taken any enhancers.
Cheers

Plus a big fat huge ONE. nicely put Nem.
i'm still young in terms of the scene but i've already seen my fair share of things that i wish i didn't have to. but it is and seems that it will always be a part of this scene...as a dj though, you gotta remember that at the end of the day, you are there to provide the music, and while it is good to get involved with the crowd, you are NOT there to party hardy like the rest of them. well...at least not till after your set. ;)
but to add to the original thread...i find i'm best sober...rit does make you concentrate easier, but i find that when i concentrate too much i get picky and up. not to mention i forget to enjoy what i'm listening to. |

+1
This is the point I was trying to make regarding the context of use...
The "slippery slope" idea is probably the best explanation...
Nice work Nem... |

once again, nem spells it out.
i personally learned to dj sober and after/during a few beers. when i spin at night, i always am sipping on some alchohol, but i never have more than 3 drinks while doing so, even when i'm spinning out. and if course when i spin in the early morning, i don't crack open a beer at 8 am =)
as far as the question goes.....i'd forget it. it's not worth any benefit that you could have. if you run out or lose your pills, not everyone has those pills.
being comfortable behind the decks is very important if you want to spin out, and if you can't be comfortable sober, then you're in trouble...
i'm also not fond of the fact that drugs are ingrained in EDM culture because i've seen many lives messed up because of it, but i am aware of the fact that yes, a lot of music was inspired with the assistance of drugs and may have helped me personally, really love trance music though now i don't need anything to truly appreciate it, yet it may have created a spark. but i stayed away from addictive drugs and i'm thankful of that |

Already established, worthless post...
And as far as it being quote "the dumbest thing thread I have ever head", I don't think any open, objective, and rationale discussion about drugs and their use is worthless, in fact quite the opposite in the sense that hopefully we're able to destroy the myth of the "Performance enhancing psychoactive." |

| all i can say is.. if something like a beer or two before the set helps you loosen up and get rid of the pre-spinning jitters, more power to ya. |

"Beta blocker" is another class of drug. They calm a person down, maybe useful if you get really nervous.
Here's a page relating to their use by music people:

Yes but that could be extremely dangerous if you were not a sufferer of hypertension (high blood pressure). Not to be recomended, technically they dilate your arteries to reduce pressure on the walls. Take this in conjuction with other drugs and you are talking potentially fatal concequences.

WTF? I have ADD and depression and stimulants don't help. Also, after a few hours your performance will drop horribly once withdrawl settles in.
Learn to perform without artifical enhancement, please. |

Indeed, I seriously don't understand why you'd want to start popping beta blockers for kicks. Just like any drug if you start mixing it with other drugs odds are at one time or another you will run into a potentially fatal combo. I'd stay away from it, but alas, if you're going to do it at least know what you can take with what. |
