just market yourself. send out demos. talk to a bunch of people.
why would a professional manager represent you? they dont represent anybody off the street. there has to be something in it for them.
now if you are willing to pay a manager their normal fee, they may represent you, but are you really willing to pay someone for something you can do on your own?
big DJs need managers because they are so busy they need the help. someone has to book their flights, deal with all the travel arrangements/hotel, booking fees, etc. |

:D :D thats an explaination.. thnx
i know big names need managers... but do u get me.. i mean DJ Management..
Example:
I setup a dj management call "XXX".. it consists of 3 djs (dj A,B & C)
so there is a management.. if DJ A spin.. ppl will know that he is DJ A from XXX... and he got his fee... 20% of his fee will go to their manager pocket. I mean DJ management with manager :D .I dont mean DJ Tiesto with his personal hired manager :)
what do u think? :) |

I don't know man, I would just put the effort into it myself...
I think part of quote "paying your dues" is that period of time where you have to just shamelessly self promote your work by sending out as many demos and finding as many places to play as you can on your own.
Just try to have some perserverence, no one is just going to hand you gigs. Promote yourself on your own merits, not those of someone whose job it is to "sell" you.
Let your work sell you, not someone else. |

Im not knocking you or anything, but my thoughts are that your trying to build a massive building without a solid foundation, if i was you i would start out by marketing yourself and doing your own management, especially if there are 2 or 3 other guys in it with you, because at the end of the day everyone wants something out of it, and if your crew is as dedicated as you are to what you do then you can guarantee you can start something between you guys without a 'manager'.
thats only my opinion, and good to see you aiming high. |

+1, on top of what I said before... A great example of this would be the Midwest Trance Addict party "Addiction" we just threw in Lafayette, IN...
There were definitely some "growing pains" and things I think that will be done differently the next time, but the fact of that matter is that a group of us (Topher Jones, Daniel K, Tyler C, DJ Jam.iii, Andy (Wolverine16), Lucas Smith, Crrrazydan, and we cannot forget the Phreeker!) got togeter to support each other and put on a show. We've made connections with each other and are definitely working together, but each of us still definitely puts our own leg work into promoting our own work. |

Yeah, all of us definitely played the event (Which may have been one of the problems! It's hard to keep people out dancing for 8 hours in the midwest! :haha: )
In general man, I really admire your attitude. I think a lot of people come into the scene and instantly get jaded by just how much competition is out there, but you just have to have faith in yourself and your work ethic. If you can work hard to get your stuff out there, and to innovate on the decks, there's absolutely no reason why a few years down the line you won't need a manager; but not now. Now is the time to keep your eye on the prize, and learn about the industry and how it works.
A couple of suggestions:
1. Find out who the promoters in your area are, make contact, and bombard them with demos.
2. Find clubs in the area, give demos to EVERYONE, bartenders, bouncers, anyone who will listen.
3. Contact the guys at ETN about possibly sending them a demo. DO NOT JUST SEND IT TO THEM! Ask first...
4. See how hard/what it would cost for you to throw your own event in your area (i.e. renting a club/space to throw a party.)
and probably most importantly
5. NETWORK! Meet people, listen to other DJ's, go out, be an extrovert. The general rule seems to be that the more folks you know, the more opportunities you'll get.
Granted, none of these are definitive ways to get booked/put on a show, but it's without a doubt a place to start. Best of luck M8, keep the faith! |

| Yeah and if you need some advice straight from the horses mouth, go to www.i-dj.co.uk and search for tutorials - promotion. |

In my area almost all DJs including newbies are associated with a small number of other DJs in little "companies" and help promote each other, throw an event, jointly set up a continuing night at a club, set up a website with mix hosting etc.
The company may not do much else than that and provide a name and a trademark that provides some sense of identity. But it all helps and makes the DJ look a little more established. I think it's rare for the "lone wolf" DJ to do it all by themselves and survive. |
