Yes I do spin, I'm not saying I'm the best at it or anywhere near it (or that I drink any less than Tiesto does), but I've also never done it as a profession. My performance at my birthday party this Saturday night is free unless you want a cup for the keg. It doesn't make any difference that I spin though, my opinion is no better or no worse than that of anyone else who likes EDM.
I like a lot of Tiesto's prior work and probably will get the new ISOS, don't get me wrong, I'm just making a bit of fun over last time, because he charged people $40 each based on his name recognition and reputation. If he had an off night, I can understand, but he did not want to be there and didn't put forth any effort anywhere near what I've seen from the tremendous local DJs on nights when cover is $5. If I were to pay lots to see John Malkovich perform at Steppenwolf, I would expect him to do more than read a script in a monotone voice.
If you were at Vision last time, you may remember there were no O2 blasts, because of the microphones set up above the crowd for recording. Funny how that set never got released after all, eh? Regardless, have a great time if you see him next month and I hope it goes well, but I think it should be understandable if some of us may be critical and poke a little fun at him due to prior events. |

I would easily pay more than that for someone worth seeing... in fact, I have, on more than one occasion.. wtf is your point here Spliph? |

Wolverine, I understand about what happened at Vision... but... is it his fault that the promoters of the clubs put tha tmany people in there? It is said by himself that he hates it when clubs do this..just because of the name... to cram everyone in... also, it was not his choice to let them have microphones above the crowd!! LOL...Chicago still lags the professional entertainment management that Holland has :)
hell, we should have throw a big dance festival @ millennium park.... but of course... Not in Chi-town.. :( |

WHOA!!! Spliph, let me ask you this, are you Dutch? Have you ever spent a legitiment amount of time in Holland? Are you just going to say that you have "done this/that" jsut to try to validate yourself?
Sadly I think the answers in order go: no, no, yes (but you could prove me wrong on the last one)
Granted, Holland is an AMAZING country (my favorite in the world, the time I spent there is easily what I consider the best time in my life), but you can't compare all of Holland with Chicago. Holland has ty promoters, bad clubs, and shady setups all over the place...
First of all, yes, Tiesto has plenty of control over the setup of the evening, it's called a "Rider." Second, you're going to tell me Tiesto hates seeing giant crowds out to see him, cramming clubs full? If that's true, I hate him more now than ever...
And finally, I think Godskitchen does a fine job promoting, they've been around the block, and if they were really the problem, Tiesto shouldn't be working shows for them, nor would anyone else.
...
Doesn't like a crowd... ppfft... I don't care how big you get in the world of being a DJ, when you start to hate seeing a club crammed full of people for you... God, I can't even complete that thought, it just makes me so angry... |

Well the rumor was that the mics were up to record a live album and I've never seen that setup at any other show at Vision, so it was likely his choice, because the club had no reason to do it, especially since it messes with the effects. They also set up a nice covering over the booth so no one could watch him mix, which I've also never seen for anyone else. Rob is also correct about the rider and the amount of people let in has a lot to do with what expenses they have to pay out for talent. If all this was so bad last time & it wasn't his fault, then why has he signed on for the same thing at Vision again and why will the results be different? All I'm saying is that if he decides to put a show in Chicago on his tour and earn thousands of dollars for spinning records for a few hours, he should at least put some effort into it or else cancel the date and just stay in Holland if it's that bad of a scenario. Honestly I think that this time has to be better and I was impressed with a good portion of his set at TIC2, but I still think he would prefer to have a clone mix for him while he drinks :) |

hmmmmm thanks for making me think... i was not @ Vision when he was spinnin here.. i was actually in Holland :p at the time...
I could not even imagine them having a thing over the booth...that's really taking away the intimacy of the Sky Dome...
hehe... Still funny, Vision is such a cramped place.... WHY there... why are all the pro's there?
Cheerz,
listenin to ASOT atm... good harder beats today :) |

Yeah... I actually grew up in Amsterdam....there the scene is FAR more evolved..here in Chicago we have hardly ANY decent clubs...if we do, then I have not heard of them yet..why don't you inform me? ;)

I think he wants everyone to enjoy it as much as he does, being able to dance on the floor....

Godskitchen IS one of the best promoters in the world... became very mainstream at the turn of the century and now is trusted by every club goer in the world. Now they need to crank up some superclubs in Chicago ;)
....
No hating, no dissing, just letting my opinion know... cuz, after all, isn't trance for everyone to enjoy? no matter the situation...? |

Yeah, I've only seen him the one time, so I'm not doubting that you may have seen much better shows by him and I'd love to go to Holland at some point. I just like to make fun of that last instance and I'm sketchy on paying lots to see him again after that. I'll admit it was at least worth part of the cover to see him smashing a record while really trashed.
I remember they got strict at some point in the evening about how many people were allowed in the sky dome and you had to wait for people to leave before you could enter again. They've been paranoid just about everywhere except Soundbar since the E2 disaster, so it could have been even worse. PvD at the Riv last month was actually a really good time once I figured out how to get past security and onto the main floor, so hopefully they might have some more gigs there in the future. |
