Heaven Returns- A Review (pg. 3)

i think its a great idea...the only thing is that with Heaven being an 18+ event...you have people that are 21+ coming with a group of friends which include people under 21.

If you broke up the evening like how you suggested, you would break up those groups. For me for instance, I wouldnt be able to get into the club until 1:30am because I'd have to wait outside all night with my girlfriend (she's 19).

I say you take away the dividers and you increase security. Keep the wristbands for the 21+. As long as you are selling to the people with wristbands at the bar you shouldnt get in trouble, right?

I say that the glowsticks on the strings should get banned because that could be an injury waiting to happen.

Also maybe have some sort of dress code.

These are just some of my ideas and I think it would help the club have a better image.

I think Heaven's idea of allowing 18+ in after 1:30 is an excellent idea. We all know it's a major struggle to have a club promotion be 18+. As of now Heaven is going to be 21+ like it used to be. This is a nice compromise. SVG is right, that it will break up some groups, but this is the best compromise that will accommodate almost everybody. 21+ groups can go in earlier on their own, and 21 under can just come later. 21 under groups still get to check out the healiner. Heaven is probably having to pay the headliners extra to spin for 3 hrs as opposed to 2hrs and if Heaven can have the club stay open till 5AM that would really be an accomplishement. It may suck a bit in cordinating some of the groups, but at least 21 under is not left out. That's more than you can say for any of the decent clubs/promotions in the LA area. I personally like the energy that the younger club goers bring to the events. This would keep the club bumping till late.
What would you rather have, 21+ only or 18+ after 1:30 ?
Once again, I think it's a great compromise/resolution.

The under 21 would get no exposure to the resident dj's such as Kristina Sky. Its important to support your local dj's whenever you can. I personally would find it a pain in the ass if I had to wait til 1:30am before I could get into the club with my girlfriend, as opposed to getting in around 10pm, and missing all of the opening acts. I had 40 people on my guestlist that showed up from Santa Barbara. That is a 110 mile trek. Some were under 21 and some were over 21. Thats 40 people that I got to drive 110 miles to see such an awesome event. Changing up the age limit and the hours I think would suck ass and prevent me from organizing carpools and what not to come to the club with all my peeps from Santa Barbara. I am not in support of it.

People are complaining about how having Heaven be an 18+ event is bringing the wrong crowd...I think regardless of the age limit of the club, you are always going to have the bad crowd. Its the type of music that we listen to. Theres always going to be the bad apples as long as you have this type of music. The drugs are always going to be there. No matter what you do.

My personal opinion is that I will not attend a club that is 18+. If it's a rock concert or a festival, then I am ok with it...but not in a nightclub. No offense to anyone on the board, but I feel that there are too many people in that age group who are not mature enough to make responsible choices, such as with drugs and alcohol. Note, I am not labeling that whole age group. I am sure there are plenty of responsible people in that age group on this board, it just tends that there are more of them that ruin it for all of you. I don't enjoy tripping over messed up kids or getting hit up for drugs or alcohol. I was immature at that age, too, but I'm just sayin'...

Some of my worst clubbing experiences have been at 21+ events because a lot of adults simply can not make responsible choices when it comes to drugs and alcohol. I am talking about when I have gone to Spundae in LA and SF (Circus Disco, Henry Fonda Theater, 1015 Folsom), Club Heaven @ Arena (when it was 21+), and Giant @ Avalon. I don't enjoy getting elbowed in the head by E'd out older asian couples. I don't enjoy all the times I've had alcohol spilled on me out on the dance floor. I've been hit up for drugs MANY times at 21+ events. This last Heaven event was a more pleasant experience compared to the last few Spundae events I had gone to.

Perhaps there could be a mini-venue the 18-21 year olds could go to from 9pm-130am?

There is a fundemental problem with the 18+ concept, in that many big name DJs are not interested in playing at clubs that they view as being full of candy ravers. I've had chats with a several and they all prefer playing at branded clubs (ie. Godskitchen, Spundae etc) who have supported them. This is an issue that Heaven will have to work out in the long run. My view is that they need to set up the club to bring in bigger and more respected DJs, and that means doing it properly by building a brand, marketing, and ultimately catering to people who spend money.

As I mentioned before, I like the 18+ crowd that tends to go the older "more mature" events. A great example for LA was Tiesto last summer in June. The 2nd show on Sunday, which was 18+, had a better crowd and Tiesto fed off it. Nevertheless, Heaven will probably be 21 over, so at least that offers some compromise. Yup, it would suck for some and create logistical difficulties, but it's better than nothing. I agree that it owuld cool to support the openers, but you can't have everything. Without people paying to get in, there won't even be an opportunity for the openers.
The mini-venue may be an idea. Use the house room for that. Maybe Heaven can explore that idea.

Oh, I hope last week nobody complain about the sound any more. To me the sound we bring last week was ing amazing, really cloud and clear and you still talk.

The sound was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too loud. I wear ear plugs everytime I go out and even then my ears had a slight ring. Everyone that I talked too was complaining about the sound too loud. There is not even a hint of safe sound in that venue. Of course I dont think the design of the place is made for that but we need to take into consideration the volume level of tolerable and insanity. Friday sound = insanity.

It was a tad loud. A simple fix.

I was there for that. That night was so much fun. Had that event not been 18+, I would not have been able to experience one of the best nights of my life seeing DJ Tiesto with one of my bestfriends.

The best thing in a marketing sense for Heaven would be to keep the club 18+ because the 18-20 year olds is a huge market. They are going to come to the event and are going to get hooked. They will support Heaven over the years. This would be the club they will continue to come to even after they turned 21. Its all about building a dedicated following right? I liken this to cigarettes....some kids start off with them early on and are hooked for the rest of their lives...making the cigarette companies RICH!!!

Like I mentioned before, the 21+ clubs are still full of candy ravers. Its the type of music we listen to. There is no getting rid of that problem.

Big name DJ's don't only have fans that are 21+. They have fans of all ages and I think it is bull if they wouldn't want to perform for ALL their fans.

I agree with this to an extent. There is a massive market in the 18-21 range, but again, you would have trouble getting the bigger names booked because they don't want to play at venues with a disproportionate amount of kids. I speak from personal experience, as I was recently in talks with a big DJ to have him come to LA, and he told me he would only play at Godskitchen or Spundae. Obviously in an ideal world this wouldn't be a problem, but given that this is the case with alot of DJs, I think it would be wise for Heaven to consider a 21+ night to build up the brand. They could also do a concurrent 18+ night at a different venue to support more local DJs under a different club night - thus simultaneously hitting all age groups without one or the other feeling like they are getting the short end of the bargin.

Heaven started out as 21+. They built up the brand. Changed to 18+. Further built up the brand. Heaven is the place to go for the 18+. Heaven wants to build up the brand more but cut out the market out that enabled it to grow into what it is now? Make up your mind Heaven.
