good bad ugly? Worth the 150-200 per speaker price? Anyspeakers that are better? Im def looking for 2 speakers in that range. Cause my speakers now are good for lisning but kinda sucky for mixing.

Should I go with the 5-6-8...

any input would help...:D

I originally bought the Alesis Monitor 1s and did not like them. They were not loud enough for me and always sounded a bit distant or muffled.

I then upgraded to the Rockit 8s and I LOVE them. Yeah, they arent Mackie's, but they also cost me a hell of a lot less. They were a huge upgrade to the Alesis.

I tested the 6s and the 8s and the 8s were just better for my environment. There is no way you can know which a better unless you take them home. The 6s definately were not loud enoguh for me though.

The 8s are perfect, and for what I paid...

Originally I paid $500 from Guitar Center with the performance guarantee. By the time I picked them up I pricematched down to $450 with the guarnatee.

A week later DJMart had them for a one day sale for $319 (pair) and guitar center pricematched them to $319 +$50 for the performance guarantee.

I added a set of Mopads and these things are just perfect for my set-up.

I have an 8 inch sub, should i hook the speakers up threw it or not?

I basically use it as a "hi pass-filter" for my speakers now.

btw thanks for the input...

I would test it out with and without the sub. What I liked about the 8s is that I did not feel like I lacked any bass. The 6s sounded like I was going to need to add a sub to them.

I have them positioned 3 feet from me when I am mixing. The 8s have very good bass response.

What kind of sub do you have? The problem I find with subs is that cheaper subs dont have the quick bass response that expensive subs do. A lot of people buy consumer subs that are meant for Home Theater and use it for music. These subs tend to not have tight bass with a quick response. Cheap subs end up doing more harm then good.

Cheaper subs will fool you because they will get real low (eg JFoS - Do What ....).

When I say cheap subs that includes almost anything under $500.

Test it both ways and see which sounds better to you.

I think i have the older version of this

Velodyne 8'

also i dont have much room between my speakers and decks...

damn dorm rooms, what can ya do :)...
CosmoKid
I would get the Rockits and scrap the sub. Velodyne makes a nice sub, but thats the low-end of their subs. Its much better for HT then it is for music. They make a servo line that goes for over 1k that can handle music pretty well.

You CAN hook up the sub and set the crossover as low as possible. This was only the lowest frequencies will go to the sub and the mid-level bass will stay on the monitors.

Also, I may be reading this wrong, but did you want to put your sub next to your speakers? No need to. Bass isnt directional so you cna put it on your floor. Every room is different and will dictate where to put your sub.

I think you should pick up the 8s and try them out without the sub. See if your happy with that. I think you will be.

Well right now I have my sub under my table... my 1200s on the table, and the speakers behind them...

I was thinking about getting the rokit's and using them, then just using my other speakers for computer listning purposes...

dont you get a bit of dleay between the bass and the midrange/treble like that?

My Samson Resolv65's have 8inch subs and great tweeters, perfect for mixing/producing/watching movies/playing games

see im not to sure... there could be a delay, which throws off my mixing just enough...

the thing that sucks is that my decks now are to the left of my computer and tv, so its hard to position the speakers, which is why im concidering getting the monitors...:stongue:

monitors arnt for mixing purposes

they are made to produce music

get yourself some hi-fi speakers or low powered Pa speakers

this way you can crank up the bass without having to deal with a ing bass limiter who kicks in each time you switch basses.

my brother owns hi end mackie monitors that cost more than a 1000 bucks each but they suck compared to my b-52 PA speakers when it comes to mixing.

good point, but if you learn to mix on monitors you can mix on anything, plus you can master your mixes as necessary

i actually disagree. monitors are great for mixing. and recording your mixes. the flat response allows me to really hear exactly the frequencies I need and how to adjust my EQs.

If I get hi-fi speakers, they are made to emphasize certain things in music (klipsh are bright, paradigms are warm, etc.)

i dont want anything to alter what I will hear when I mix except me.

Now if you want to add a 2nd set of speakers and have monitors near you to mix with and hi-fi speakers to fill the room, then great.

If I dont use a flat monitor to mix with, then my recorded mix will sound different then what I hear as I mix it. I'll never know what to adjust to get the transition just right.
