My review:
I missed much of Cody Lee's set as I was outside for most of it, so I can't really comment.
Spent much of the next few hours trying to avoid both rooms, as The Scumfrog just wasn't doing it for me. The stuff he was playing sounded closer what one might expect at a Gay circuit show than a Saturday night at Spundae. It was just a wee bit too retro-disco. Unfortunately the backroom offered little protection from Scumfrog, as there were a few people loitering on the couches whilst listening to some breaks that obviously weren't compelling anyone to enter the room. To his credit, Scumfrog did bring in his Octapad device and was augmenting his tracks with some interesting LIVE drumming. The crowd seemed to be having a good time with 'THE SCUMFROG', which was interesting. The pinnacle of absurdity occured when 'THE SCUMFROG' played some bizarre remix of Styx's 'Mr. Roboto', which led more than a few to cover their ears.
The most outrageous part of the evening was that M.I.K.E was supposed to go on at 2 (should've been 1:30 imo), but appallingly, the SCUMFROG, continued to play until 2:20, so we basically ended up only getting about an hour and 40 minutes of the main act!
But what an hour and 40 minutes it was! M.I.K.E came on and was an instant thunderbolt of magic. His energy completely transformed the evening for me. He started off with an awesome muted track that had this amazing xylophone type lead in it, and then basically built things up with the type of stuff you would expect from him. He was completely composed and in his element, and dropped some insanely good tracks. All that and an amazingly nice guy to boot. I told him he needs to play a longer set next time and he mentioned something about playing a 3 or 4 hour set next time, which will definitely be amazing.
All in all, a fun night. Hooked up with the usual suspects and had a great time with M.I.K.E. I don't think Spundae could possibly come up with a better one/two combination than M.I.K.E and JOOF in consecutive weeks. :) |

I missed Cody's set and most of Scumfrog's set as I was spinning at Something More. Yeah, it was a bit disappointing that MIKE only got to play for 1 hr 45 minutes or so. I was also expecting a larger amount of 'epic-y' MIKE tracks like RESPECT or Adrenalin. I was kinda wishing for the Oliver Prime remix of LSG - Netherworld as well since I heard him play it on GDJB in January.
Still, his set was head and shoulders above anyone I've seen since JOOF's Godskitchen set from last November. Comparing his set to Armin's last month he completely blew AvB out of the water: no contest. His set had nice progression and structure to it, the mixing was very solid, and he was interacting with the crowd very well. The bpm's were UP too: he had to be several notches above 140 bpm near the end. He rattled off a string of really tough tech trance tracks right in a row and people went crazy over Naranja. The best part was him playing Strange World near the end. That was nearly perfect. I joked with Tranz about whether he liked Acosta's set better than MIKE's. I think I would have had the same answer as he did :D.
9.8/10 IMO. Amazing set. Please come back later this summer. In fact, please come back every weekend!
Finally, was it me or was he wearing grey sweat pants when he was dj'ing? :D

Yeah, this was the best set I've seen at Spundae since they came back.
The sweat pants thing was awesome. It was like he woke up on a Saturday morning and went around the block to Starbucks or something. Maybe next time he'll wear a bath robe. |

Man what a night!!! Cody Lee was damn good. He kept it dark and driving. He had some breaks in there but they were good. To tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting much from Cody Lee but he blew me away! The Scumfrog was good also. I had heard bad things about him and a lot of people were calling him "The Suckfrog." I am not into electro house or what ever the hell you want to call his style, but I really enjoyed his set. Highlights of The Scumfrog's set: Come on baby light my fire, live drums and vocals, Mr. Roboto  (I liked it!). I wandered into the breaks room a few times only to find a bunch of people practically asleep on the couches and about 3 people dancing!!! I met Reid Speed and Analyze (both are lovely ladies!) and I caught about 45 seconds of Simply Jeff, breaks just don't tickle my fancy. Moving onto M.I.K.E. WOW!!!! He mixed out of The Scumfrog very nicely with a more chill track and then went from there. He really brought it!!! Highlights of M.I.K.E.'s set: Red Line Highway ---> Pound :eyespop: (I almost ing died!), Mojado - Naranja, Push - Strange World, Closing with Blue Monday. I wish he would have been on longer but I was tired as about half way into his set. Kittycrush wouldn't let me stop dancing!!! Me, all tired ->:( :whip: <-Kittycrush "Don't stop dancing! No breaks!" The crowd was a very nice size, I didn't expect there to be as many people as there were. The venue was pretty full but there was still room to dance! It was good to see all the familiar faces (Sweetcandy girl, DJFADED (I never got your number!), neinerlove, Kittycrush) and I finally met Technofreak (frik). I also met some very nice people but I can't remember their names :p . I know one of the girls was from Redlands though. What was up with the AC being turned off? I heard from a very reliable source that the AC was off so that the drink sales would be up beacuse they weren't expecting a large turnout due to Coachella and the previous night being opening night @ Heaven. For shame Spundae! I just kept getting those free cups of water;)
Edit: Those sweat pants were great! It would have sealed the deal if he had total bed head! And what was up with those tiny Sony MDR-100 headphones:wtf:? Did he get those from a walkman or something? I can't imagine that those get loud enough for use in a large venue but M.I.K.E. proved me wrong! Oh and for those that missed M.I.K.E. on Saturday, he will be back this summer (He told me so ;)) |

| WOW !! What a night!! Cody Lee was great!! Great set.. and fun to watch! He had a ton of energy!! Jumping up and down .. His music certainly reflected his good mood! I thought he was great!! Then Scumfrog ( SCUMFROG RULES!!) comes on..(yes perviously suckfrog to me) Note I said previously!!( i was in a different state of mind before) HE WAS AMAZING! I don't think I stopped dancing once! No doubt that ScumFrog tore it up! What I still dont quite understand is that his production and dj sets dont compliment or reflect each other. I have seen him play 3 times and everytime he plays straight up DANCE MUSIC! Which I love. I'm a fan of the tribal/south beach sound which he somewhat reflects. LA needs more dj's like him. I love the trance and heavy progressive artists but bring out Oscar G and Erick Morrilo someday!
I got what I expected from M.I.K.E. and I was not disappointed at all. The only thing that I have to complain about was his attire. Homeboy looked like he just came from the gym. I'm sorry but if people are going to pay to see you, at least make an effort to not look like you just got out of bed. Other then that, he rocked it hard. I think he could have chosen a better set ending track but maybe that is just his style. |

Maybe the PvD look? Pin stripe tuxedo pants and a black shirt, with a hair do that took 2 hours to make it look like you don't even care? I love PvD anyway!!! Or maybe the insanely gay Tiesto/Johan Gielen look? Neinerlove, I knew it was you that called him "The Suckfrog" but I didn't want to throw you under the bus ;). Glad to see you enjoyed him! |

| He said he was coming back soon, probably in a few months. After what I saw on sat, I would have no problem doing a road trip if he was playing anywhere else on the west coast. |
