REVIEW: Desyn Masiello, James Holden @ System (May 6th 2005) (pg. 4)

ahh..am well rested now...what a night..:D
Masiello played a lot of tunes from his Miami Essential Mix...the ones i can remember are:
Slam - This World (Instrumental Mix)
Alra - Moon (<----not too sure about this)
Electricano - Harmony Of Soul :eyespop:
Scape Feat. Dempress - Be My Friend (Bini And Martini Dub Mix) (<--not too sure either)
track 5 from his Miami EM (as yet un-ID'd, but the crowd went absolute bonkers...he played it later in the night)
i kid you not but his set was a good lesson on what danceable house music should be...sooo groovy and sexayy!! he started off with a bit of funky electro-techy stuff and then got into his groove with 80's style beats...they continued untill the last 20 mins or so when he slowed it down for Holden and started playing a bit of proggy stuff. Overall i'd give him a 9.5/10...wish he couldve played longer...he seemed to be having a ball spinning tunes.
As for Holden..i kinda agree to what someone said earlier...he plays good stuff but not really stuff you can dance to....and when you are coming after Masiello...not the best judgement call by the management...but he played some good tunes nonetheless...the ones i can ID are
Britney Spears - Breathe On Me (Holden Dub)
James Holden - Lump (on his new EP coming soon)
Metope - Testcrash
he even played these in the same order...just like his Live at Switch @ Studio Brussel set...i didnt stay too long...till about 5 or so coz my back was killing me... so didnt get to hear what he played after...anyone got any IDs for that?
all in all a very good night...thoroughly enjoyed and heres hoping Masiello gets booked to play at the WEMF...(fingers crossed)

does anyone know what was the last song played in the gallery...i dunno who was spinning but the crowd asked for one more tune after Deep Dish-Flashdance and he threw a banger...would be great if someone could tell me what that was...cheers
also...did no one else notice Masiello asking for a spliff from the crowd? lol |

excellent night out.. masiello in killed it.. he seriously made my toes bleed.. FAAAAACCK good choons. He must've had like a "dirty fader" and he just kept slowly pushing it all set looooong... loving the electro-disco-ish sounds in the first half of the set, really got me in the mood...
holden's set was really really minimal, which isn't usually my thing, but it was very unique and interesting that i did quite enjoy it, although the last 1/2 hour i spent sitting and listening... fischerspooner - just let go (twd mix) :D <-- dropped the tempo on this one = gold. i guess i was wrong about the Kirsty Hawkshaw - Fine Day (james holden mix) track.. I thought it was actually the accapella version of "Opus III - It's a Fine Day" with some beat layered with it.. I guess Kirsty Hawkshaw is her real name?? I'd forgotten it.. had the full vocals tho *thumbs up*

haha, yea i didn't notice him asking but i spotted him puffing.. funny thing was much later in the evening the smell of weed was just EVERYWHERE and Holden kept sniffing and mimicking toking for like 20 minutes (not the whole 20 minutes - but like he kept asking) and the smell just got stronger but I don't think Holden ever got any :wtf:
