Heres some shocking News.
Recently I conntacted the producer Lange, telling him I would do a feature for him on TA, for the upcoming single "Drifting Away", I had a reply a couple of days later.
Heres what he had to say:-
(Just had a look in the singles section of Tranceaddict.com & couldn't
believe what i saw - My new single offered for download!!!!!!!! Isn't that illegal? I have recently complained to another music site who allowed people to post their URLs for downloading tracks - including mine! ( they have since removed the link). Could you not just have a clip of it on the singles page instead of the whole thing?)
Thanks
Kind regards,
Stuart

The thing is the MP3 format upon this forum is a mere tool, to listen to a partilcular choon before,:-
1. Buying the requested song
2. Not buying, the requested song
Nobodys making us download MP3z if we dont want to. Ultimately ,its up to us TA's to make our own moral judgements and take responsibility for our own actions.
If it wasnt for MP3, i would have gone a miss with the vast number of 12" I have bought, because I used it to listen to that tune, via MP3, and then made my own mind up to go and buy it.
Your Opinions??

why do ppl contact producers telling them about what ppl share on this site ?
i think its better that it is for us TA's only.
but back to your question, i have the same opinion as you.
now as you can see on my logo, im a techno addict too (started enjoying it in the first quarter this year), i didnt know too much about it.
ppl could ask me what kind of techno im listening to , and i just told them "techno". but now after i have listened to lots of different techno on mp3s, i can answer tribal techno , minimalistic techno etc
and now i can also order vinyls that i would have missed if it wasnt for the mp3s here and there.
mp3s keeps you updated on the market, so you know what songs are new and old, and those mp3s that are released by groups, usually contain info about label etc, so you will also know who to contact, if you cant find the vinyl you want in your local record shop
thats my point of view
this is how mp3s have helped me out.
and btw, i think that producers shouldnt be so "bitchy" when it comes to mp3s of their songs...
mp3 is the best way for promoting in this society, which isnt too commercialised.
now this may came out a bit wrong, but im very tired atm (long night yesterday), but i hope you understand were i want to go with this
greetz! |

I hear you tranza,
alot of these artist just don't get it YET.
I don't understand why some of them are so uptight about their tunes on mp3. The bulk of their sales are all based on vinyl sales, NOT CD SALES.
The people who just look to mp3's for new music are NOT GONNA START BUYING 12" just because they can no longer download new tunes. They will either look for a new source or just drop it all together, it's not that much of a big deal to them.
if you think about it, 95 percent of this "dance music industry" is based on 12 sales, since sales of 12" are driven by people who buy 12" whether it's available on mp3 or not I don't see how it can hurt the bottom line, especiallly when vinyl sales this past year is up by 40 percent. It's simply a sampling tool to use before forkin out the 10 bucks on a tune.
ultimately, mp3's just simply weed out the quality tunes from the e tunes. It give vinyl buyers a 2nd opinion before purchasing. |

| I think an mp3 is basically as you said, i taster before buying the actual tune. also you cant DJ with Mp3s which most people who use this site most probably do (buy vinyl) rather than CDs, so the money loss factor of making cd singles is quite minimal. also if the tune is advertised on a site of great popularity such as this, then a lot of peopel who may never of heard the tune might like it then buy the vinyl. also the biut about having a sample can also be bad, if you have the whole tune you are going to listen to it quite a few times if its ok, but it might grow on you and you may buy the vinyl because of it, which i dont think could happen with just a sample. before some producers start going slagging off mp3s for losing them money, they shud stop sticking remixs which are a bag of bollocks on with the original, and then putting the best remixes on a seperate vinyl, to claw more money out of us. well thats what i think anyway. |

| Don't get me wrong I'll be downloading mp3's still they start serving jail terms but you have to look at it from the artists view too. It's not like it's their first big song and they want everyone to hear it. They do it for a living. Depending on the type of job you have if people are scamming the product for free you'd be pissed too. |

| I gotta say, that if it weren't for mp3, I would NEVER be into trance the way I am today, probably not even at all. I've invested probably hundreds of dollars into CDs (vinyl is rare, and I don't got a deck yet) in under a year since getting into it, and there is no end in sight. |

I don't understand you people.
Why do you contact people as if you 'represent' TA? The way he responded to your email was as if you run the site, which you do not.
As far as I'm concerned what djversus said was right, and the last thing I need is emails going out from random ppl and using ta.com as a platform. |

Lange made a very valid point in his reply to you
Why not just post a clip instead of the whole track !
that would still be considered as a taster for u to decide if u want to buy the single or not.
Dont get me wrong cos i am all for MP3 !
MP3 is a great promotional tool, it brings music paticuly Trance to ppl who may never ever have heard it and creates sales.
a Lot of ppl download MP3 and then also buy the vinyl / CD too
I know many of the regulars on TA DO buy singles / vinyls / CD's of tracks that they have Dled on MP3
I myself get on average between 100 / 200 Vinyls /CDs a month and i DOWNLOAD mp3. i prolly have just as many MP3 as i have vinyls / CDs
Some of those MP3's i have are rarer tracks, ones u just cant find on vinyl or CD, so MP3 is great for that too
But looking at it from the Artist's point of veiw, MP3 is also a great tool for piracey !
look on audiogalaxy, type in a track name and BANG loads of ppl who prolly will never buy the vinyl have songs for nothing ! Plus some of the more ruthless/ greedy MP3 collecters then burn audio CDs and sell them on, making sure the artist involved gets NOTHING in return for his work, to the artist / producer thats lost revenue, thats less money they can spend on making a new production / for going on tour etc.
Plus the guy has worked hard on making a kick ass track, he expects some return for his work, after all the guy has to live and making music is his line of work so ripping off his tracks could be seen as taking the food from his mouth.
U have to look at it from both sides, MP3 is great and will never die but there is a fine line between promotion and piracy
I will leave this long post now with a FACT
A survey in America found that since the start of Napster, MUSIC sales INCREASED, not decreased as was thought to be the case.
Why ? easy answer, ppl were downloading tracks from napster on MP3 and then going out to buy the Albums !
Peace :)
