OK I am seriously lacking motivation at school lol. I think I have the worst case of 'senioritus' in the history of high school ever....hmmm.
Anyways, I was wondering what you people do for your motivation to do projects/work/etc.... I've gone through it all, from thinking about my future and career, to getting more sleep, and even ''trying to make my school work fun''....:stongue: :stongue: I have all A's n B's, but if I don't get movin my grades have a high chance of droppin  soooo....what are your cures of 'motivation deficit' ??
thx :D:D:D |

ok, set a goal for yourself, like a short term goal that you will finish a project or something, and promise to reward yourself in some way that will make you happy in the end.....work towards the goal, but make sure u reward yourself once you're done....
my motivation every time this past school year was the fact i knew that i was gonna go to Europe for the whole summer and party....every time i thought about not doing my work, i made myself think how much fun i was gonna have, and it helped get the work done...
give it a try

| I have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), and I have the hardest time trying to motivate myself. So what I did to motivate myself is I told my parents about every project or homework that I had and if I didn't do it I had a choice of my parents taking away one of three things: My paycheck for that week, My turntables, or all of my prialiges for that week (going out with friends, hockey, ect...). This was all my idea too. I told my parents that if they wanted me to pass they would have to take away something very dear to me so they said ok but we will give you the choise of those three things I previously mentioned. Now that I am out of school and my girlfriend doesn't have a job and we just moved in together, my motivation for getting up for work is my girlfriend and her needs because she is currently between jobs and has no money so I must pay for basically everything. |

i seriously doubt that first part...itll only be true if you repeat senior year!
hmm motivation...i think about that while i go play videogames...hehe
but seriously, im pretty unmotivated most of the time but when I HAVE to do something itll get done guaranteed. mostly i just think about what is absolutely necessary and get after that first, no matter how much it sucks. if its a big project and you got the assignment early -then start as soon as possible- if its not due for a while work in little chunks, i know it sucks, but if you keep up doing just a little at a time, it wont be boring and when you finally HAVE to work on it A LOT itll be that much easier. also dont spend tons and tons of time on one thing, especially if it is frustrating. take breaks often! many people i know study ALL DAY and all night and still do terrible, its because getting sleep, and NOT bein stressed out is much better than knowing some little useless fact. Do your homework when you get it. It seems obvious AND ty, but itll help when you need to study, and you can FULLY slack off when its done. When you do work it helps to go someplace quiet and away from everyone else...i wouldnt have believed this until i tried it in college. No music and distractions are boring, but the work will sink in better AND get done quicker. Mostly tho, like Juricimo said, set little goals that you CAN accomplish, rather than big ones you wont. cause when you hit those goals, you will be further motivated, and keep working, or not freak out.
Please be motivated enough to read my whole post :) late/ |

my one piece of advice abt motivation....never ever say ur gonna leave something for later...cause u wont do it later no way in hell...i always say that ahh i got time tomm morning to do my work...and when i get around to it i find something else to distract me....bah |

i agree with Vivid Boy who said 'never ever say ur gonna leave something for later' becuz that is very very true! i know, i have a free block in my classes that i can study in, but it never happens i usually just check the net and listen to music..
see you say you'll do it later, but you know and i know that you won't ;)
anywhoo, i've been trying to do my homework earlier in the day now, i do it around 7 and get to bed at.. oh let's say 12!!!! i know it sounds stupid i should be getting to bed around 10 (coffee IS the alternative hehe) and that's what i'm trying for, so i don't fall asleep in my classes!
gah! me rambling.. i shut up now. |

sometimes when i'm not motivated enough, i look to god, and jesus helps me along the way.........
:stongue: :stongue: :stongue: :stongue:
ok, but seriously, heheh, i am the poster-boy for lack of motivation. I got you ALL beat. Brandon, i had the EXACT same problem in high school..... i had senioritis as a sophomore!! i actually had dropped out for a month of my senior year due to my senioritis. But my parents begged the school to let me back in after i left, and they somehow convinced me to stay at least the rest of the year.
It really pissed me off how the guidance councilors kept telling you "don't worry if you dont' know what you want to do with your life, you have plenty of time to decide..." blah blah! That's BS! I'm 23 and have no job, no diploma (from a college, although several random years at 6 different universities/colleges), and NO idea of what i want to do. I'm also turning lazy. I've had random jobs since i was 15, almost worked straight through till now. Recently i just CAN'T get up to go out and get a job - too friggin lazy. I just don't feel like it. I have ADD as well, so it was always really hard for me to concentrate in school. I was on ritalin for awhile, but that got expensive and so did seeing psychiatrists to get it prescribed.
Whats' this have to do with anything you ask? well, i guess the truth be told i never was really motivated. I took the wrong way out - i told myself that if i completed what had to be done, i'd buy myself that thing i'd want...... whether it be a CD, record, table, speakers, whatever..... but i was so bad, i went out and bought that thing whether i completed the task or not.
I want to say that lack of motivation is directly resulted in how you are brought up, (some parents being more strict on kids, etc.... some kids that are "proper" just have NO problem being motivated to do stuff - doesn't mean they're happy though....), but then i realized that almost EVERYONE has a period of no motivation in their life. I think its just part of growing up. Its a trying time that you have to deal with yourself, and try to figure out. The only slight of motivation i had all my life was looking towards the end..... I was motivated to finish that one class of Anatomical Physics in college (BORING!) because i had "only 3 weeks left"..... or i was motivated to stick out the Psychology class because "christmas break was in 2 weeks", etc...... I found myself always looking forward to the end of everything. this was the only way that actually worked for me..... until a year ago when i finally said "f#ck it!" and just dropped out of everything.
I regret my decisions 100% d00d. If i could i would start all over from when i was 18, would have enrolled in a college proper and pursued it and TRIED hard to pass. You want motivation? Look at me and my life. I'm probably going to be one of those 28 year old guys who mops the floor in your college at night. It sucks being 23 and having no direction, no desire, no work, and no motivation.
I'm not stressing about it though. As everyone else said, NOT stressing about it is the key. That's why i'm not depressed or anything. you just got to shrug it off and say "f#ck it!! I'll live each day at a time, and do what i have to do!" that works in the chillax department. And like was mentioned earlier, when you get projects, if you do the bulk of them the DAY they are assigned, you feel so good about yourself the next 2 weeks until its due. It feels like a giant weight is off your shoulders. ....... Man i miss that feeling.
Anyways, don't do what i did :D
