I'm going to have to say your way of thinking about gays offends me. You shouldn't have to make up bull just to have a reason to accept gays. The whole population thing is bull right up until the 50s or so, because most gays ended up getting married and starting a family anyways, before being gay was acceptable.
People who are truly gay are born gay, and it isnt to save the population. Thats like saying some people are born without working genitals to keep the population in check. As crude as this sounds, being born gay is basicly a mental issue so to speak. They are born with different things in their brain than a hetero male.
For instance, as we know, men and women have different brains, and they react differently to certain substances. A recent study has shown that gay males brains act in the same manner as a heterosexual womans to certain scents. Where as hetero mens brains act completely different. So simply put, their brains have more feminine qualities. This isn't natures big scheme to keep the population in check. Its a reproductive mishap, just like kids born with ADD, or kids born as super geniuses. As crude as that sounds, I am not saying gays should be given drugs or something to correct it, because there isnt anything wrong with it.
This brings me to the question. Are people born masochistic? Or prone to beastiality? Or prone to liking kids? Are the latter two part of natures scheme to control the population as well? Are people born as beasties going to slowly become accepted like gays, or are we going to pump them full of drugs, or psychiatric care?
This is the reason simply stating that "people are born gay" isn't a good enough reason to accept gays, because people are born with lots of mental deviancies. Homosexuality is an acceptable one, but many are not. Simply going by the rule "they are born like that so its ok" isn't suitable. |

you realize the only reason most americans have a problem with gays is because we (generally speaking) hold christian ideals and morals? did you know that in some tribal cultures, homosexual acts are complelety normal?
in one, for example, young boys give the older men fellatio in an attempt to "fill them up" with the essence needed to impregnate women, and a boy giving another boy fellatio is looked down upon because they are sucking away their life energy.
in another one, men are encouraged to engage in anal intercourse with other men and only allowed to women for procreation. otherwise they camp in completely different areas than women and consider them to be unclean.
food for thought. calling it "population control" is a bunch of nonsense. face it, we're all a bunch of glorified monkeys, we all grow up in different areas with different ideals, and getting all indignant because we live in a society where homos are "morally wrong" is just ludicrous. and saying that anything is "wrong" or "bad" other than the two universal "wrongs" (killing and lying) is both ignorant and stereotypical.
all in all, who cares about other's sexual preferences? |

i personally don't know if i believe that you are pre-destined as homosexual. i think it all has to do with your surroundings, how you were raised, what you were exposed to, etc. a mix of nature and nurture. i think our minds are devoid of any knowledge or sexual preference when we are born, but we are influenced in one way or another by our environment. tabula rasa. |

I thought the exact same way until a sociology teacher explained to us that it had been proven that gay males possess a lower testosterone level than that of heterosexual males; thus influencing their level of voice, persona, etc. Hey, what is Tabula Rasa?! That is one of my favorite orchestral pieces ! |

You fail to realize that there are various other religions other than christianity that forbid homosexuality. You also fail to mention how many african tribes would destroy any male acting in a homosexual manner. |

interesting, i didn't know that. but getting back to the tribes that do such acts, i doubt every male there has reduced testosterone, it is just socially acceptable to perform homosexual acts. who knows i guess.
tabula rasa = "clean slate" or the idea that our brains are devoid of knowledge when we are born, and through experiences we learn how to behave.

true. i just wanted to point out that in some cultures, it is socially acceptable to perform homosexual acts. for us to knock other cultures or people for doing so is pretty ethnocentric of us. |

i once knew (he moved away) a flaming gay guy who only went after straight men. it was weird. he was a genius from princeton who spent all his money at crobar on drinks for all the closet fags...i mean straight guys who would be at the clubs and "hang out" with him all the time.
anyway he told me he knew he was gay when he was 4. i believed him. i believe in the gay gene. he said he liked barbies instead of g-i joes. |
