CPC voted against: 9 (C-2, C-11, C-13, C-14, C-17, C-21, C-31, C-32, C-39)

CPC voted for: 7 (C-3, C-5, C-9, C-22, C-23, C-24, C-30) (of which one was a vote to raise the pay of MPs)

There are no listed bills on the site from which the CPC abstained. Sure looks like the Grits haven't been counting all that much on the Conservatives to prop them up based on these numbers.

At this point, I'll likely be rejecting my ballot at the polling station.

That's a vote for the Lieberals.

That assertion is patently false.

Any multi-party democratic system, especially one that allows for proportional represtation (which many here say they'd like to see), is going to result in minority governments. Despite what you may think, is a good thing. Coalitions are formed, partisan politics is replaced by equitable compromise. No one party can unilaterally decide that they will do this or that, and the emasculated minority opposition is eliminated, for a coalition opposition.

Re-read my post. I didn't say minority governments were "bad," just "unstable."

What worries me most about the Conservative rhetoric is the constant emphasis on their belief that the Liberals must go. This is unrealistic. Such a left of centre party is here to stay, regardless of whatever happens at the next election(s) in the coming year. Is the CPC ever going to learn to play nice with others, even people they might not like?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadi...lection%2C_1993

People said the same thing about the PC Party - "Canada's founding party" - and yet is was decimated in 1993.

We absolutely don't need a "nice" opposition, that would give in to the government. That's not healthy for democracy. What we neeed is an effective and vigilent opposition to hold the government's feet to the fire - regardless of who's in charge.

What worries ME is that people like you are more concerned about the opposition "playing nice" then getting rid of the corrupt Lieberals, who are ruining the country.

Why are they left out to pasture, though? Where was Stephen Harper when Jack Layton and Paul Martin were practicing a (unfortunately) rare form of consensual federal politics?

Is that deal in the best interests of Canadians, or does it only serve the interests of the Lieberals, in order to stay in power?

The NDP and Liberals have committed to pairing for the upcoming budget vote.

The Lieberals scheduled the budget vote AFTER a CPC had surjury for cancer. That's what caused the problem.

Why have the Consveratives done everything in their power to see that parliament descends into chaos? Has anyone watched question period lately? As a Canadian, I find it shameful the way CPC carries on.

It's the opposition's job to hold the government's feet to the fire.

Only a Lieberal partisan would want to call the attack dogs off.

If the Alliance-Reforms were able to work out their differences with the ideologically-distant Progressive Conservatives, one would think that the new CPC would be able to find some middle ground between protesting a party's alleged wrong-doings and attending to very important matters of government... At least until the summer recess.

They chose not to. I'm sure not many will forget that.

It's clear that you're very ignorant about the extent of the federal government's corruption and mismanagement. They have to go NOW... we can't afford to wait or "play nice." They certainly aren't playing nice... consider the Stronach and Grewal situations... or bribing provinces with our money.

That was a motion... not the budget bill. Check hansard for the day.

No... it's a vote for none of the above. I can't support the Liberals, nor can I support Harper at the helm of the CPC. At this point, I'm ashamed to be a card carrying member of the party and will certainly not be renewing that membership when it comes up.

Regardless, it was a confidence motion, and the CPC chose not to topple the government. The NDP and Bloc voted against the government.

Why is that?

Because Harper is far too right-wing for me. I reluctantly remained a member when the PCs and Alliance merged with the hopes that there was some small chance that the party would return to somewhat more moderate roots.

It's quite evident this will not happen anytime soon, particularly as long as Harper is at the helm.

On what issues exactly?

Keep in mind, many people are angry at him for moving to far to the LEFT.

id like to see the conservatives stay very fiscally conservative and committed to government restructuring. On the social aspect it would be nice if they were a bit more liberal.
