I Just Got Fired

It's one of the worst feelings in the world.

I don't know if it was something I did, but the people I worked for (doing some contracting work) said they weren't making any money, thus they couldn't really afford to pay me for any future work since things are slow, so they let me go. I was there for a few days w/ no training (we went directly to work) and it's almost like they expected me to do everything. Eh, I tried as hard as I could but I guess in the end it wasn't for me. I feel even worse because it's almost like I let my friend who got me the job, down.

Good end to the story is as soon as I got fired someone else asked me to work for them so I start this evening. Working for the same company, but doing something else. So at least I have another job, kinda.

Sorry, but I don't have a gf right now so I needed someone to bitch about this to.

Anyone else ever been fired?

when i worked at this nice steak house as a server, i didn't really get fired, but i could tell they wanted to get rid of me, so they kept messing with me until i quit. it was really ty because i was a really good worker. i have a good work ethic...i was always on time for my shifts, i never called in like all the other loser servers. i got along with everyone... i think i called in sick like 2 times in my 9 months of working there, and both times i was legitimately sick.

anyway, i realized that there are A LOT of politics in the restaurant business and after i "quit" (they pretty much made me feel like i was a ty server and like i was going to get fired, so i said it and i left), i continued friendships with several of the servers and i found out so much that i was oblivious to. i guess a group of servers (the same ones who wouldn't show up for shifts all the time, and never got fired) did coke and smoked weed w/ the managers...just stuff like that.

then i realized why they (managers) didn't like me. cuz i wasn't their "buddy" and i was just there to work and not make friends and i never hooked them up with drugs. pretty pathetic.

the funny part is i know a lot of people at that restaurant thought i was like this little straight laced chick just because i didn't really party with any of them or show up to work all blasted or yayed up.

HA!

but yea, even though they didn't technically "fire" me, i still felt like i had been fired and i was really pissed about it for a while.

just brush it off. if you know inside that you were a good worker, etc., then don't let it get to you.

see like if i ever got fired from this job, i'd just be like oh well, cuz i'm on this damn website all day hahaha...but yea, the restaurant thing pissed me off cuz i actually worked my ass off.

i remember my job told me at christmas that they were going to have to let me go at the end of the year. i was pissed but i showed up for the rest of the year anyways. well it turned out that they screwed up the budget and had extra money to keep me. so ive been working here since then and studying to take some exams so i can get out of here. if you look at my post count you can find out what i do at work. :p

Rodas, man I feel for you. I know it sucked but at the least, you got a new job. I've never been fired but I have walked out on job because of the politics there...I just can't imagine facing the "oh, we have to let you go because we're..." Pick yourself up try to let your performance come through with the new job. Every day the sun rises is a new day that comes with new opportunity. Remember that!

What do you do?

@ Rodas. My best friend is a contractor. Work comes and goes for him as well. I'm guessing it just comes with the territory. Don't worry about it. Hakuna Matata!

I'm a server. There have been more nights that I wanted to tell my guests to go themselves, drill over and over again that steak knife into their retinas and walk out the door. But then, you just have to smile and meet their petty demands. I just want managament who can cope with stress and keep the mentality of their workers positive, despite being on a 2 hour wait, having to comp 10 meals and straining to comply with guests' complaints. Is that too much to ask for?! Instead, I am managed by 25-32 year olds who are fun to joke and mess around, but when the restaurant is going down they become just as mindless as their employees. I can't tell you how many times managament is stressed, while a server is trying to maintain above water with their tables, and the manager pulls them aside to rip them a new one. The server cries, then the tables go to even more . It's not too logical. I just need to keep baking them cookies because when that happens to me, I AM OUT.

@ Rodas. Did you say you didn't get paid?

No, they paid me (read above). I guess I should edit the post so that people won't get so confused =p.

But anwyay, thanks for all the kind words guys.

Anyway, I tried to appologize to my friend since I thought I let him down and he sais "no no, it had nothing to do with you".. And he pretty much explained x & y and why there wasn't enough profit comming for at least the next few days to get me to work. He'd have no problem telling me if I was a bad worker and that's what happened (because that's the type of person he is lol).

Anyway, I'm glad I got another job. At least this will be more stable. Even if they decide the want me working with them again, and even though the money was good at there, I can't deal with the ups and downs.

I have a very similar situation at my job as a cashier for a local grocer. I'm pretty much the only person who always shows up on time, always takes breaks within the limits, etc. etc. --- basically the only one who believes in professionalism. I know it sounds narcissistic, but it's true. I looked at the productivity sheets yesterday and I have the most sales/hour -- even more than the people who work in the liquor store! People hardly ever get fired though, because they all party together and live in the same neighborhood.

I don't know if they hold it against me, but I never get invited to their parties and I'm still waiting on a well deserved promotion and raise (only at $6/hr after 18 months). Everybody seems to know that I may as well be supervising, but it hasn't happened for some reason. I actually think that's just because our store director is an who gets bonuses for keeping wages and overtime down. He'll leave us short people on the busiest day of the week if it means keeping overtime down.

Obviously not :p

I used to work for a restaurant / lounge and the owner was this Napoleon-complex Iranian jerk who thought he was hot because he owned a restaurant. I was a really good worker there and never ed around while I was there (well, usually not) and he took a particular dislike to me because the women who worked there liked me more than they liked him. This one blonde in particular who he fancied took quite a liking to me and we started hanging out outside of work, kind of seeing each other, and he found out and got really jealous so he stopped scheduling me and started treating me like until one day I found out through somebody else that I was fired.
