My mom on occasions likes it when I put in my trance CD's.
My dad though is the exact opposite so I don't play anything in his car.
However, my nationality has a lot to do with my love for trance.
I'm part Cuban (dad) and part German (MOM). :) |

Well my parents have always been open to edm ... I guess if that's what the kiddo listens to the most you have no choice but to adapt.
I remember when one day my dad came up to me on the computer and asking me what I was listening to : Armin van Buuren Asot playing Hydra - Affinity. After that my dad listened to Asot weekly for quite some time. Odd.
Well this evening while I'm at the computer my father suddenly walks in the room and says:
John Digweed's not bad. He's got a good voice. I could listen to him when I'm travelling you need to burn me some cds.
:stongue: :stongue: :stongue: :stongue:
I have no clue how he figured out it was Diggers as I hadn't play the show from the start :conf: :haha:
Parents are so odd. | :wtf:
Tell the old f*ck to take a hike. Like I ain't older than him or something and like I pay attention to what my kids play.

My dad always asks me what track I'm playing when he's walking around the house. He's into house a little more than trance but he can listen to some of my older stuff.
My mom has me make her trance and house CDs all the time and listens to a lot of Orbital and the Chemical Brothers as well as Moby. Just a few years ago she went to the Guv with one of my brothers female friends and my mother is 51 :wtf:. |

My mom likes EDM somewhat, as long as it has either melodies or rhythm. Aphex Twin is too muich for her though. :p
My dad always claims all electronica artists are just stealing melodies from others, but he still likes some Juno Reactor stuff, even though it's hard to get him to admit it. :D |

i dont live with my parents anymore but when i was....i was spending the half day in my room with my mixer and my cdz....my mother complained every time she wanted to sleep besides that she never told me anything....my father was more into music in general...back in the 80s when he was 18-19 he had an illegal fm transmitter, he was one of the first fm-pirates here :)
so he's open to all kinds of music, he even like a few vocal trance tracks.
it didnt seem strange to them never,i was like 9 or 10 and i was listening to dr alban on the radio! :haha: |

my mom likes it, lotf of it, house trance, melodic stuff,
she likes armin: universal religion and whatnot
my dada is interested in it all, he knows the difference between prog, trance, house etc etc, ive taught him a lot, he could mix too if i let him use my tables, ive taught him a load about it all.
hes very open minded to music.
when he was little he was selected to be on a radio show to say who he thought was gonna be the next big thing and he said david bowie.
the radio guy laughed at him! |

LOL that is weird. My parents can't in stand EDM! Whenever I put it on anywhere near them they start to bitch. They claim it's too repetitive and artificial...which it is, compared to other music. But hey...that's part of what makes it great! They just don't get it. |
Slip them some E and then put it on the EDM. They will get it then. |

I remember last year I thought nobody was home, so I blasted Dickster - Dizzy Drops, at an insane vol level...
I thought nobody was home, but out of nowhere my dad waltz in my room and slowly bends down to check what record was playing. He was obviously drunker than , but he just yells over the track:
"Those are some damn sexy beats, Leon"
I didnt know what to say. But he got me to play more. I played him a whole J00F set aftwards. He just sat on my couch with his beer and really got into it. I mean...the man isnt the father type: no baseball, camping, etc when I was little. I bonded with him that day more than ever, and I still havnt had that much in common with him since. Good times...
He seems to like alot of my productions, and occasionally, when drunk, starts to try and play along with just frenzied drum patterns. for instance, i was working on this breakcore type track, at like 200+bpm and he was just hammering away at the drums, trying to follow along. really funny .
now, my mom really loves Boards of Canada. she listens to them while she paints... |

Whenever my mom listens to music, EDM is always her choice. She likes House and Trance, but can't stand Drum & Bass and Techno. She originally got into underground EDM by listening to a Tony Humphries Tribal UK mix CD I had just bought. After that she became a massive David Morales fan.
I think her enjoying EDM is cool, cause then I can ask her about music I'm working on and get an answer that makes sense. :) |
