And here we have the mandatory insult from a user of conventional gear, directed at anyone who uses unconventional gear:

No... not mandatory, but when those who work hard at being a DJ have probs, its different than someone having a problem with the 'sync' button.

If it was so easy to DJ with a computer you'd see a lot of people doing good sets on their computers at clubs & events. But you don't see it very often. Because it's NOT easy, as you can see from this thread.

Nobody buys a computer and sofware and a few tracks and walks into an club and delivers a good performance. It takes a lot of work, no matter how it's done.

Im the opposite. I use traktor dj and still saving for 'real dj equipment'. I find i use the auto match feature and then the pitch bend to keep the beats matched. Its not perfect but its very close. Other than that you can lock the bpms, unlock one and change the bpm and bend the pitch til its right. Its usually only .1 or .2 bpm off, but sometimes u get the odd one which is about 1 bpm off. Although i have a computer too so that probably doesnt help.

the reason why dj's don't use dj programs such as traktor is because it's so easy. it seriously takes no talent to use a program. i would be world in famous if i could use traktor and a mixer and still look respectable. but dj's who depend on programs like these can't be taken seriously.

I starded this thread because I just want to know how to use this program, that's all.
For me all this software on the market is not so mindblowing.I'm still
thinking that 2 Technics and a good mixer is all you need to try to become a good DJ. Now it is easy to get good tracks and mix them on your computer and for me that is just for home ,you know,I'm killing time on this program because I don't have real Dj gear [but that's my next step].

We don't need to many DJ's ,just good DJ's.

Firstly I think I should state that I do own "Real" DJ gear, I do not "Depend" on Traktor at all, and I'm not planning on becoming a world famous DJ by using the programme, I just use it for messing about on now and then

What confuses me is the people that seem to think Traktor can do absolutley everything that is required to be a great DJ for you...the only thing I can see that Traktor has and "Real" DJ gear doesn't is the "Sync" button

You still have to cue the track yourself, set it going at the right time, fine tune with the pitch bend, then actually mix one track into the other using your own technique and style, then there's track selection, actually programming and constructing a set, or if you ever played out live reading the crowd etc..

Like I said I don't depend on using Traktor and I wouldn't dream of trying to play out on it, all that concerns me is people seem to think that all you need to be a DJ is a "Sync" button!

Since you can just get good tracks on the pc (assuming you buy them, heh), you should just get a nice pair of pioneer cdj's and a decent mixer to start off. I wouldnt even waste your time with software based mixing. There's nothing like working with regular equipment and if you end up with vinyl and a good mixer you get much better sound quality...

Yeah I dont take DJ's seriously who mix sets with traktor. Its fine for making mixes and having people download them but the moment someone asks the dj to preform live he is toast. I saw a kid make a mix set with traktor in a matter of minutes and it was his 2nd time using it. Just press auto sync and your done. Not hard. I will never use a software mixing program.:D

there isn't anything wrong with using traktor in your setups. i use traktor as my 3rd channel to go with my 2 techs. its something i use for fun and for my own pleasure. i don't use the auto-sync and i can't. how do you auto-sync your tune on traktor if you are mixing it with vinyl? regardless, you will still have to cue the tune in traktor, you still have to listen to the drifting beats and you still have to correct it.

yes, there is a bpm counter which does make it possible to beatmatch quicker. in all honesty though, even if you played BOTH tracks off traktor and you just set both bpm at lets say 139.5, they may still be off slightly because digitally, they are not always that accurate in measuring the bpm.

i've also used cd decks and it is the same thing. you can set the bpm on both cdj to be the same digitally but depending on the track, you WILL still need to fix it a little and ride the pitch.

^^i'm not saying i don't use traktor with any of my sets, since it's a great tool for using three decks at a time.. however, traktor is still MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to use than vinyl, since all you have to do (after you get the beats matched) is use the pitch bend to get it up to speed, instead of in with the pitch slider on a deck. my 2 cents

edit- i've never used them, but if you think cdjs are just like traktor, i'd seriously sell my decks now and get some pioneers instead.

yeah this part is true. fixing is VERY easy with traktor, but then its the same as when you use the jog wheel on cd decks. there is plenty of control with that too. it is definitely not the same as touching a record or platter to fix. yet, no one seems to diss people using cdj's anymore (we used to when the first cdj's came out). :p

pitch bending with the pitch slider on the techs isn't exactly the easiest thing to do. in my opinion, i think its the hardest thing to perfect. yes, i find that its even harder than beatmatching when you first start DJ'ing. it takes LOTS of practice and time to perfect it. i am still in the midst of getting better at that. i try to pitch bend as much as i can nowadays until i get desperate to fix the beat before i wreck the mix. :o
