| She killed it. A lot more eclectic than last time I saw her. My feet are killing me. I'm too tired to write a full review now. It was great seeing Brian, Brianna, and Bitchboy out. Glad to see them expand their musical pallette. There's a lot more of an electro influence on Barbara nowadays... |

So out of everyone that was supposed to be there, only the usual people showed up (Highmay, Trancer...that is all). What happened, guys? I hope everything turned out ok for everyone.
Opening set by Lasix was just on point. He played a perfect opening set. Then Barbara comes on. She got tech-housy for the first 30 minutes, then was very eclectic until 4:00. I never heard her like that before, which was very surprising considering she played one of the most relentlessly hard sets I have ever heard in my clubbing life. She did get stupid hard, but she mixed it with this Lee Burridge/Danny Howells electro which I enjoyed. Either she's trying to get away from being 100% hard all the time, or she's like a 12 year old girl going through puberty and re-discovering herself musically (which I don't agree with). If anyone is a frequent reader of her little blog thing "truth" (like me), she states on more than one occasion how she is expanding her musical horizens and is playing sets with much more variety. So I expected her to play what she played...but that all changed at 4:00 :D. For the next hour and a half, she returned to the Barbara we all came to know and love, smacking you in the face like a little baby that won't stop crying. It was very welcomed. I hadn't danced that hard since WMC. She ended with Petter - All Together and Holden's remix of The Sky Was Pink...and some other song. Throughout her entire set, she was a smiling and shouting and making eye contact with everyone, a lot more than the last two times she was in NY. She seemed a lot happier playing what she played.
She got more relentless when there was a cleared up dancefloor, but that was the problem. My friend Shannon came up to me and told me that she was missing the guts that she had to simply go in there and everyone up. I have to disagree with this. She's known for a certain style, and instead of sticking with that and making everyone happy, she invited the tougher crowds of New York to enjoy a much more different Misstress Barbara. Kudos for her on that. It's not like she played music. Quite the contrary. This was very, very good music, just totally unexpected from her. I enjoyed the variety, but others on the dancefloor who shouted "harder!" at her, clearly didn't. Yes, I could understand them being dissapointed, but she dropped good music, so it's not like you didn't get your money's worth. And on top of that, if you stayed past 4, you got rewarded big time.
So all in all, a good night. I can't wait for her to come back and see what she's got up her sleeve. |

sorry i missed it! but due to cash flow issues, it was more economical for brian and i to go to crobar for free and utilize the open bar. i do love misstress B but i just wasn't feeling like going to sully on a friday and didn't want to spend unnecessary cash.
happens, you know? |

| I had a blast. Place was packed as hell. I was surprised at the turnout. I'm not really as fan of straight techno, but she kept it interesting the whole night. I was pumped to hear Murder Was The Bass for the first time in like a year. |
