Endoscopy Tomorrow.

Anyone had one before?
I got to have a Gastroscopy tomorrow and i have to decide if i want to be awake or asleep for it...advice?
For those that dont know this is where they put a camera down my throat and look around my stomach (They blow it up with air to see it easier) then into the first bend of the duodenum.
I'm nervous because i've only had different types of scans before, not anything like this. |

I'll be up for one in a couple weeks among seeing about 7 different specialized doctors even having to go 2 hours away to go to a special hospital.
Needing special care sucks :( |

Damn right, some of you may remember me posting back in Feb about my kidneys...well this is the same prpblem thats been going on, been in pain constantly since feb. I've just got 2 specialists seeing me ( a professor and a Doctor). Already had 3 x-rays, ultra-sound scan, barium meal scan and a CT scan. Along with 3 visits in an Ambulance and 12 days in hospital...its sucks donkey balls! |

i'm a nurse and work on an endoscopy unit.
what we do here is give you a spray which freezes the back of your throat and minimizes movement. a lot of my gastro patients also ask for sedation. i say you gag either way.
we have what's called conscious sedation. meaning that you're not completely knocked out, but very very relaxed. as well, the doctor well adjust the sedation/pain meds accordingly throughout the procedure. don't fight the sedation..just go to the happy place :)
i'm so impressed with patients who go without sedation, cuz i'd be gagging the f away...
good luck..hopefully the drugs hit you well and you won't even remember a thing :D |

since end of january I've had 4 weeks in the hospital :toothless
at this stage I prefer laugh about it instead of getting all depressed ( but I'm actually feeling both ways :( ) |

oh man, i was like 2 seconds away from having one of those done, but then my dad's friend called it from a blood test...i had H-Pylori.
they didn't know what the hell was wrong with me or why i got ulcers, but anyway, yea, they were explaining that whole test to me and i was horrified, but then he was like, "i just wanna run ONE more test though" and thank god it was that... |
