... you know to notify the courts of your address changing? Nobody? One person, two people? F*cking useless government systems.
I get pulled over April 11, 2004 for speeding. My address at the time is in Newmarket. I have a court date March 15, 2005. I fail to show and am convicted on March 18, 2005. I changed my address with the MTO in July 2004 to reflect my current address in Toronto.
I'm waiting for my notice in the mail of conviction and fine? Well they sent it to my old address (the one they got from the MTO when they pulled me over). The Courts don't get that information from the MTO, so I said 'how did you get it in the first place' she replied back by telling me when the officer pulled me over. Yes that's right, the information that the ministry keeps track of, my license!!! So anyway, I then didn't receive it until long past the due date. They have suspended my license, until I pay the ticket. Then once I pay the ticket, I pay $150 to get it re-instated. So I call them to explain the situation, I wasn't not paying for any 'bad' reason. I clearly paid them promptly once I received it. They don't care, apparently I should have notified the courts, I mean come on, doesn't everyone know you notify every ing government body of an address change? There is nothing she could do. Her hands were tied by the Ministry, the Ministry says they simply do as the courts tell them, so it's the courts. So apparently, nobody is willing to take responsbility for charging me the $150, but they'll certainly force me to pay it before I can drive again. |

| That's ed up. I sorta remember having to change my address with OHIP separately from MTO tho...if that's relevant...kinda seems stupid, though, there should be a joint database for all the provincial ministries but who knows why they do things the way they do...(linked to different billing/accounting systems, maybe?) |

Well, I'd naturally assume I have to change my address with OHIP as well, as they have nothing to do with one another, but it's still stupid it has to be done that way. But when I'm pulled over for speeding, the courts use the information from my license. Especially, given the time between offence date and conviction date (over 1 YEAR) they would have something about notification of address change more publicly available, and secondly, they'd let me off the charge seeing as it was an obvious mistake that took place.
They put in all these loops holes in their rules, to make it more confusing for you, hoping to trip you up and collect 'fees'. So that these government works can be rude pricks, and claim it's always someone elses responsibility. I love the MTO, "The Ministry Of Transportation is receiving a high volume of calls right, call back later. " ..
Great service! The woman I spoke to on Friday afternoon (just a phone operator at the office) was short, and actually hung up on me as it was 4:30 Friday afternoon. |

I know if you change your address with either the Ministry of Transportation or Health using either the online web form or through one of the ServiceOntario Kiosks you often see in malls, it prompts you with the option to change both the MTO and Health addresses at the same time if you so choose.
Part of the problem likely lies with privacy of information rules regarding sharing this kind of info. I recall for the longest time that Bell had issues combining their billing for multiple services(i.e. landline, cell phone, satellite tv, etc) because technically, the various units are not permitted to exchange customer information with each other. They had to develop a system which would pull the info from various separate databases without allowing one particular unit / division to have access to the info on the same customer in another division. |

You have to pay Canada Post about $30 to forward your mail for 6 months. It sucks. I ordered the new Harry Potter book from Chapters, and had to cancel my order and re-order it to get home delivery. I've been waiting for 4 months for Sprint to activate my land line, and now I have a line with Bell and have to change my numbers on all my resumes and bank info and everything!
Sucks!
