TV going down the tubes

Is it just me or has TV gone to in the last year or so. Nowadays every other channel is a goddamn reality show, on almost
every channel at every hour of the frickin day. So many times have I flipped through the channel hoping to see if anything good is on and after having gone through every channel two or three times I just give up and turn off the TV and do something else. Don't get me wrong, some shows like Amazing Race, Fear Factor are decent since it challenges you to do something to win, but shows like Survivor, American Idol, America's Next Top Model, The Bachelor(ette) etc. are all worthless pieces of . It just goes to show that people nowadays are more interested in other people's lives than their own since they tune in faithfully each week to see what will happen next.
I mean how many Survivors have we had already? 10? Yeah sure the first one was good cuz it was new but when is it gonna stop, same goes for American Idol (4th season) The Bachelor(ette) (10+?). TV needs to start heading in a new direction in the next couple of years but I know it won't since there are those out there that thrive on watching the drama unfold that is other people's lives. |

TV has sucked for the past 5 or so years, ever since reality shows were introduced.
I hate 99.99999% of TV and the only thing I will watch is Trailer Park Boys and Family Guy if they aren't on at the same time (which sucks on Sundays now, 'cause they're both on at 9 :( ) |

Hahaha I feel like getting on Cale's nerves today:
STFU!!!:whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: You will watch RIDES (TLC), Motoring 2005 (TSN), Overhaulin' (TLC), Tuner Transformation (Speed), and any SCCA-related show (Speed) and ENJOY IT...:whip: :whip: :whip: These deserve your honourable mention!!! |

Well you only mention reality tv, which was so new and exciting when it came out. But after watching for a while, I think (most) people pick up it's flaws and how some of it is fixed. I also hate the fact that there are like 5 shows about a fat husband, his hot wife and their dysfunctional family (family guy excluded :))...
The point is, most TV does suck...But people continue to watch it anyways. |

| i think its the people moreso than the broadcasting that is 'going down the tubes'. think about it, television stations broadcast what most people want to see, even if its dumb shows like the ones you mentioned. coincidentally most people are dumb. |

^^^ milos pretty much nailed it, 90% of the population are pretty dumb. ^^^

Okay fine I'll watch the SCCA races (the Valvoline Runoffs are awesome, SSB class rules) but nothing else. NascarTV, oh wait I mean "Speed." Rides is , Overhaulin is usually , Tuner Transformation is a retarded riceboy joke of a show, and uh Motoring 2005 is bland, boring, and if it were a colour it'd be beige. |

| Going downhill? IMO it has reached bottom. TV lost me years ago when the reality programming started. Never has there been a better time to be out of the house and off the couch. But as milos mentioned, programmers have to serve the masses in order to keep viewers for their advertisers and most of the general public is happy to settle for e programming. |

And Tuesdays on Speed?!?!?! 2-wheel day, COME ON!!!! |

It is very true that tv producers have to cater to the masses since that is what raises ratings and in the end, loads of fat cash in their pocket. Not only are the TV programs a piece of trash but movies featured on television nowadays are ty too. Take for example TBS, the almight king of overkill. How many times can I watch the same frickin' movie day in and day out. They have a small collection of movies that are recycled each week, how many times has Back to the Future been on this past year, same goes for Wedding Singer, Dumb and Dumber, etc. and the worst part is they censor EVERYTHING!!! There's no point watching Dumb and Dumber when they take out the turbo-lax scene, sometimes I forget it's even there cuz they cut it out all the time. CityTV use to show decent movies at 9+, uncensored but lately the quality of movies hasn't been there. |

Too funny. TBS used to play Pretty Women every weekend which I thought was overkill but now you can catch the same film 3 nights in a row on any given week. I guess programmers figured that TBS is not a place that people tune into every night so they don't expect the return viewer night after night. Hell, with the number of stations offered now no one can expect that. Simple math proves to them that giving 3 separate brands the opportunity to exclusively sponsor that same popular movie is how they should be making use of their total audience. In terms of ad revenue dollars it works which is how they survive I guess. They also can reuse already produced trailers and promos for the movies and specials and with marketing dollars being cut every year you can avoid having to create 3 separate pieces of creative. But from a viewers perspective it appears lame and lazy. This lack in variety explains why conventional tv station numbers have been suffering the past 4 years and why specialty television audience numbers have been growing. Conventional stations have reduced their programming library and opted to offer bigger programs at a higher frequency in order to keep their advertisers happy. Instead of offering more...we are just going to offer less more often. It is a programming decision that is going to bite them in the ass when everyone moves over to VOD or digital cable. |
