yes, a trainwrecking duel, we both get 3 decks and in 3 minutes both have to trainwreck thru the most vinyl and the main goal is 33 vinyls

Well if people don't want to listen to some great music, it's their loss. You can't convince the closed minded to open their minds.

Moreover, the depth of variety within trance necessitates a knowledge of this before any such categorical pejorative statements could be justified.

I think you're full of .

Firstly, your use of big words makes you sound like an ; and I did read the whole thing. Secondly, you make the assumption that the people who hate trance have no idea what they are talking about. This is incorrect. I found my introduction to electronic music through trance, and was pretty into it for a while. I have since come to rescind that opinion and changed my view to the idea that trance has been complete since roughly when Children came out. Thusly, I have listened to trance, extensively, and still think that it is .

Also, your mention of trance lacking a cult-of-personality syndrome is completely . Tiesto, Armin, Ferry, PvD; these people might as well be worshipped, people follow them blindly. I do not think that you can deny this point, for if you do, I will ing bury you with forum search results.

Finally, you make claim that trance is strongly emotional. I disagree here also. Trance is electronic music: it is made by machines. It has no more inherent emotion than minimal techno, drum and bass, or happy hardcore.

So, next time you try to sound intelligent, I suggest you make claims with some basis, and I suggest that you don't contradict yourself in your "defence," as several prior posters have pointed out. Music is music, and therefore is highly subjective. Don't try to make yourself superior through what you listen to.

No.

Emotions are perhaps the most subjective of the myriad of ways used to describe a human. It's about relativism - what is good to one, is bad to another.

Although it is electronic music, simply because it's made by machines does not strip it of emotion. Certainly, it is incapable of FEELING emotion, but it is perfectly capable of CONVEYING emotion. In epic trance, the music is generally written with chord progressions that are known to create happy feelings. Just as two notes played simultaneously can sound and feel both jarring and pleasing (a half-step interval vs. a perfect fourth or a perfect fifth), music can create feelings of unease, joy, sorrow, peacefulness, etc... The instrumentation used is irrelevant when compared to the notes and their interaction with one another - the instrument of choice is merely incidental.

While minimalist techno may not have blatantly emotional melodies (or have melodies at all, for that matter, making them simply sound as opposed to music according to Western music), it can be associated with an emotional event. Just as certain smells remind people of places and events, and bring back the feelings associated with it, music can also be associated with a certain place and time.

The correct Brittish spelling is 'Defence'. However as you are American, you are not incorrect in saying that it should have an 's' to replace the 'c' in your cultural schema.

With regards to the original poster. I do believe we have seen into the mind of the worlds first fundamentalist TA. ;)

elitist means someone who thinks that they are better than everyone else because of what they percieve as their greater knowledge or understanding of something....

We really need something in TA which tells us how long the starter of the thread has been around on TA...
