I liked Cocoon when it was a techno label. Now it's responsible for the likes of Roman Flügel - Gehts Noch. What a shame. |
lol, whats wrong with Gehts Noch? it used to be a minimal techno track for minimal techno DJs. not Romand's/Cocoon's fault EVERYONE started playing it, in EVERY set.
'techno', to me at least, is a quite versatile word. sure, Cocoon isn't exactly techno anymore, but it is, to some point...
btw, i had always considered Ozgur as some weird breed of borderline tech-house. was pleased to see him, and holden, on there. |

The question is rather what is NOT wrong with Gehts Noch. It's an utter e, horrid piece of gimmick pap, lightyears behind what Roman Flügel is capable of. I'm really starting to believe people who say that if it hadn't been for Cocoon releasing it, this tune would've been brushed off as a new DJ Alligator Project track or something similar. |

| Geht's Noch was being caned by the likes of Vath months in advance before a lot of other DJ's picked up on it. I think its a landamrk tune, and yes, it is overplayed and gets annoying after a while, just like 'Rocker'. Tunes like these don't come about often, it is very unique. Call it a 'techno anthem' if you want but it has done well, whether you like it or not. |

I agree with Sand Leaper
Roman is capable of so much more. |

I think it's laughable that anyone can suggest he's 'lost it'. Because his label releases 1 bad tune, suddenly sven's no use anymore.
What a lot of e. He's still one of the most in demand dj's in dance music and he still sell's out club's wherever he play's. |

Start reading the posts properly. Noone said that Sven has "lost it" just cos he released Gehts Noch on his label. It was just an example of how bad things have gotten.

The same can easily be said about for example Tiesto, so I'm afraid that arguement has 0 credibility. |

fair point on the popularity bit and tiesto being similar, didn't really think before posting that.
can you provide a better argument tho, other than geht nocht as to why sven has lost it? |

I'm not the one saying that he has "lost it". I think what he has been doing lately with Cocoon and his DJ sets is vastly inferior to what he used to do, and that it is a shame that things have degraded as much as this.
It's probably cos I think a lot of the socalled "minimal" stuff (the direction Cocoon and this comp has taken) that's so popular nowadays is not half as creative or substantial as say, this:
Sven Väth - Essential Mix 06.04.97
Carl Craig - Alien Talk (Planet E/SSR)
Robert Hood - The Grey Area (M-Plant)
Soylent Green - Low Pt.1 (Playhouse)
M. Mayer - One (NTA)
? (Metro Juice)
Claude Young - Prance (Elypsia)
Alter Ego - Folk Song (Harthouse)
Acid Jesus - Wierstate (Klang)
Alter Ego - Absolute (Harthouse)
Foundation - Running (F.D.)
Blackman/Redrun - Trick (Blacknation)
Adam Beyer - Tasty Bits (Drumcode)
Move D - ? (800 Trak)
? (Metro Juice)
Heiko Laux - ? (U-Turn)
Planetary Assault Systems - Signal (Peacefrog)
EOU - Phaze Test (Electron)
Sikora Eigeuhelm - Haus (Klang)
Acid Jesus - On The Couch (Klang)
Flexitone - Mausicaa (Planet E)
Planet Jazz - Monster (Harthouse)
Cold - Strobe Light Network (Blue Glass Remix) (Elektrolux) |

with Gehts Noch, i'll be honest. I LIKE IT. i hate it to death, now, because i'm tired of hearing it (although i do like the Moguai Remix), but i danced quite a lot the first time i heard it, when i saw Richie Hawtin. i danced as much to that as i did when Hawtin dropped a Ableton-tweak of Technasia - Acid Storm.
furthermore, hey man, Sven just changed it up a bit. sure, you're allowed to not like it. but i believe he's at his best atm. i get to see what they sometimes refer to as 'Sven Jr.' in 2 weeks (Frank Lorber), so i'll have more details of what the DJs from that clan are up to.
i guess everyone's entitled to their opinion, but Leaper, you ever seen Sven LIVE lately? or Richie or Lorber, or any DJ that takes after these styles? i used to not get it myself, till about 2 years ago, when i heard Lorber for the first time. changed my view, completely |

I believe it's Sven is "Hawtin Jr." and Lorber is "Sven Jr."
Logically. |

I have seen Ricardo Villalobos (who played Gehts Noch and made me despise it, and that was way before it got as popular as it is), Andre Galluzzi and Monika Kruse twice when she did a minimal set. |

| And for all you Vath and Lorber lovers who are not in the know, or haven't read it on Discogs, this will probly interest you: "In the future, Lorber plans to open a studio together with Techno-Diety Sven Väth deep in the recesses of the Cocoon building." |
