Vinyl going out of style ???

I was just wondering if someone can shed some light on this subject of vinyl going out of style. I have noticed how cd's are taking over. I can fully see the better potential of CD's as opposed to vinyl but what I don't understand is how is the Dance Music Industry preparing for this change? I know that after the CD decks were made with CD-R compatiablity that all music indutries have taken a big loss due to illegal downloading and I don't see how much longer vinyl can last when all the major Dj's hardly even use them themselves. I was wondering in anyone has more indepth information on this and if you do please hit me a reply.

I would think a big part of Armin's, Tiesto's, and PVD's money comes from vinyl sells, especially with all the lables and sub-labels they own. But if they are not using vinyl any longer how can they expect all of us to keep buying them

1. this topic has been done before.

2. check the dj forum, there is a sticky on CD vs Vinyl thats very long and informative.

I was almost positive it had been done before but I didn't see anything in the forums. I must have missed it, but I am not really looking at vinyl vs CD's. I am more seeking information on the industry and maybe a thought or two on how much time vinyl might have left

Dude, its gonna go out eventually. Who would have known only 5-10 years ago, dj's would be traveling around with a hard drive the size of a cd case & holding 10,000 plus tracks. Also who would have guessed 15-25 years ago a DJ would get paid $10,000 to $35,000 to spin records for 3 hours. EDM is about technology & its gonne progess every second.

BTW i think you will ghet alot more in the music forum.;)

Yea, I completely understand what you said there. Things seem to be moving faster into "Progression" excuse the pun. I really am asking because I own a small record shop and I finally found something I like doing and I can see it starting to slip away.

WoW, you really dont get it.
Aiwendil
i get it just fine. 95% of the world's music consumers progressed to CD over 10 years ago, and DJ's are progressing to CD now. am i right or am i right?

your wrong, most dj's i know in my area are all vinyl and love it, i think its past cd's now anyways and its now a case of more ppl just so called mixing on software, which takes no real skill at all, and i know what id rather go and see in a nightclub, a dj with 2 steel platters and 2 lumps on 12" plastic as suppose to someone just pushing a few buttons on a laptop

i don't see it going out within the next ten years or so. it's too ingrained in dj culture.

Here we go again.

Oh, and I agree with Omega.
