you know what'd be some intense bombage? an anti-matter bomb... All you need is a couple of grams of the and have a bomb release the matter into contact with other particles and you have yourself an intense bomb.
thankyou Dan Brown for the inspiration to post this :) |

^ that CERN book? Cool you read that. I was over at CERN for a visit some 2 months ago, I got to see THIS nasty piece of detector. Awesome stuff they have there, really.
Yeah, an antimatter bomb, just imagine that, just did the math: 23,25 grams of the stuff = 1MT :eyes: |

Sweet, I'm gonna be working in that stuff too (not a nuclear engineer tho, electrical stuff). I've gotta go off on a course to do it though which is a pain in the ass.
Is it exclusively nuclear engineering your doing? |
Good luck on that course! Been in a nuclear production park couple of times too hehe (don't mean to sound thickheaded or anything), seems like a real cool place to work.
That extra year is nuclear stuff only, but now I've been loaded with reactor courses and then stuff like 'radioactivity', 'advanced subatomic physics', 'radiation physics'; 'elements of the nuclear fuel cycle' dealt with bombs (obviously not in great detail) amongst other things.
But there are other courses I take, like meteorology, geophysics, philosophy of physics, acustics...
Maybe an interesting fact: With a nuclear explosion, 50% of the energy is released as kinetic energy (the blast, the shockwave), 30% as heat radiating from the flashpoint & fireball; 20% as radiation comparable to radioactive radiation. Of those 20%, 10% is released practically instantaneous, the other 10% delayed as the radio-isotopes decay over time. |

Wow, that's one cool particle accelerator.
Btw, I was thinking of specializing in energetics and stuff, but i ended up choosing automation and robotics.. |

Dervish...i'm beggining to think we're brothers or something: people say we look alike, we have the same kinda mood, and when i cant sleep neither can you! :p
With all this talk about nuclear bombs i wonder how many members of the CIA and Secret service have signed up to TA after making sure these posts weren't terrorist threats. |

You never know (my dad's good at keeping secrets  :p).
I've got an exam tommorrow and I still can sleep (not nervous just can't sleep) it's well anoying cos I can be arsed doing more work.
And you never know what thouse CIA & co. guys are upto with their mysterious ways. We could of got ourselfs on all kinda lists (no american holidays for us anymore). |

I guess i was thinking along the lines of "If something as destructive as the A-bomb was built 60 years ago, imagine what kind of weapon power is being hidden from us today by governments".
But i guess that when you can drop a bomb through a doorway from 50,000 feet up everytime, that would have seemed impossible 60 years ago. |
I read something a bit back about a weapon that could set fire to the atmousphere, vaporising everything in the vacinity! |

It would be silly to say there haven't been any advancements in weapons technology since the nuclear bomb. The difference is the nuclear bomb is the last of these weapons to be used publically.
I don't know much about this field but I've heard of bombs that do what their nuclear cousins do minus some of the negative effects. Such as a bomb the same size of a nuclear one that will destroy everything organic (humans) but leave buildings and such unharmed. Also what about the whatever you call it bomb that takes out anything electrical (thinking Oceans 11). |
There is a weapon that is basically the same as the one they use in Matrix that sends out some kind of electronic wave that makes microchips not work |

Cool story but I dont think they can make anti-matter just yet!! (Unless Bonzai knows any different?!) |

Now, nukes were developed in the 40s and 50s...we were developing them in leaps and bounds with higher and higher megaton bombs being produced. Now, it seems that not much has been developed in the way of nuclear weapons since the 60s (prove me wrong if i am) and the amount of money spent in the military has grown vastly. So my question to you is:
What kind of weapons would they be spending this money on?
It might just be the case that money was spent on developing nukes dues to WW2 and the Cold war. Are there any thoughts on this? |
Nuclear bombs wont work on aliens! Haven't you seen War of the Worlds or independence day?!
Money today is being spent on precision weapons like cruise missiles, so we can win wars by sitting in a boat and pressing buttons! |

In a way like creating an Artificial Solar Flare? |

No idea!! I'll have a look see if I can find any links (but it might have been a few years ago) |
