Best online vinyl retailers?

Hey, I'm about to get my first set of turn tables and a mixer (very cheap beginners set, probably **this one **, any thoughts? I know they'll not exactly be professional quality, but I'm on a REALLY tight budget :D) and need to get some vinyls to go with it ;) Where are the best place to buy vinyls online (uk preferably)? I've had a look at quite a few stores, but they all seem to be missing some reasonably common ones, eg adagio for strings.
Also, what's the sort of price you pay for a vinyl?
Any thoughts? |

| with vinyl, usually when a track goes out of stock, it doesnt come back, so dont judge a shop on what they have in stcok when you look, but rather what they get in when you look every week. |

You should also expect pretty much anything to go out of stock everywhere after a while.
Regular pressings are in the 500-2000 vinyl range so they don't last forever.
In regards to retailers check the sticky threads for loads of shops. |

Ah, I see, so each vinyl is a sorta limited edition :) I guess I need to get a CDDJ deck next then for the older tracks I won't be able to find :) Thanks for the feedback
I've been reading the stickies and I've read about certain shops shipping "whitelabels". I assume (correct me if i'm wrong) that these are the vinyls you see where the centre label is just white with the title written on. My question is why do they have these labels? Are they copies or second hand or something?

Whitelabels are either:
Promo records ( pre-release copies )
or Bootleg
You may also want to check the online digital retailer like beatport.com and such for mp3 stuff |

My online record store endorsement goes to Chemical Records. Most of the time when I've been looking for something they've had it in stock. I mainly use them and Dance Grooves, but Dance Grooves always sells out earler on most stuff. As far as price it varies from vinyl to vinyl. For me it usually between $7-$15/vinyl. |

Firstly if I were you I'd phone up each place (JBSmusic, DjStore, Decks/Sapphires are good starting points) and haggle like to see what you can get off at one place then phone up another and so on.
Then once you've got loads of say your a student, you get a discount in some places for this.
Also everyone bitches about belt drives, and while if it is really the only option get them, really try not to. The mixer doesn't matter so much, just try to get the best, hopefully direct drive, decks.
As for records try juno.co.uk you can listen to the week or months new tracks just by clicking a link. Then it cues all one after the other in winamp so it's easy to listen to the whole lot without having to click on a million links. |

From Decks.co.uk, I say phone them ask about that haggle (and say your a student, if they ask for proof get a mate to do it or something), ask all the other places as well and just pick the cheapest.
Maybe actually just say you want the cheapest direct drive package and that you are going around everywhere so get them to do you a deal. |

I had a look at them, and they seem to be missing quite a few records, and seem expensive to me (although I'm not the most experienced with prices and such, so I may be well off). I'm pretty pleased with Above the Sky Records actually, they seem pretty cheap (although not the biggest selection, but they've got some nice tracks).

Yeah, direct drives are pretty much out of my budget unless I decide to raise the bar a bit. The thing is I don't want to get expensive decks until I know that I'll actually be able to DJ ;) Don't want to find out I'm complete and don't get better after I spend £600 on a pair of 1200s ;)

You don't have to buy 1200's to get direct drive decks. I would strongly encourage you to get direct drive at all costs. It will make your mixing experience much more enjoyable. |

Heh, yeah I was just using 1200s as an example.
Although, I've been reading up and have decided to get direct drive decks anyway, might as well spend a little more, so i'm going to go for these decks I think.
One thing: A quartz lock means that it wont "click" at 0% pitch, but you can easily reset to 0% if you want, yes? I've looked it up, just want to make sure I understood right.

Nah not really a deck with quartz lock is a different thing than a "click" at 0.
Quartz lock is a method whereby when it's set the deck should default no matter what the postion to 0 pitch.
You possibly knew that, but they are different things (my decks have lock and a "click"). |
