| Very tough between Deko-ze and Manzone & Strong...but Deko-ze, he just gets my body moving! Runner ups for sure, MO and Evil P |

First of all, I thought I was going to be answering about a pub...
Secondly, thanks a lot for the music. I'm at work and the speakers were up! D'oh!
My vote has to do with not only their talent, but their people skills.
Having been personally blown off by a few of them upon my return to the club scene(when I only wanted to re-introduce myself or give them kudos on a great night!), I chose Kenny Glasgow, who not only kicks it, but has been totally awesome to me every time I've run into him!

How the F**k is Mark Oliver leading the poll?
All he does is copy other big artist's styles.
I mean he is ok for a resident (GUV) DJ but that is all he will ever be.
I think DE-KOZE and Kenny have have a chance to break out plus they have an image too! |

Well that's because all the MO lovers here have never ventured anywhere else and only know Mark. If they saw Deko-ze in his element ie. System, CZ they'd soon learn what a technician he really his. I've seen Deko-ze at the Guv a few times and if he's not playing in the Drink he has to turn his style down to suit the Guvheads which I think is an insult to Deko-ze. He's the master of the hard & tribal and I bow down to him for that. |

Maybe the most popular but not the best by far!!
He is the Brittany Spears of local DJ's
Listen I got nothing against Mark I used to work at CFNY as well with Sheppard when Mark was starting out.
Its just that he is what he is, and he is good at that but that’s it,
he has no individual style and is a chameleon to his surroundings which has benefited him very well as he IS growing in popularity!

I have to say that Mark does not "copy" anyone. In fact often he hasnt heard an artist in awhile and ends up playing better than that artist. IMO internationals tend to stick to the hits more and more. Not that mark doesnt play hits sometimes because you have to when you are playing 9 hours, but he goes way beyond that into stuff that no one else in the city will touch. He is either at par oy above many of the international guests that come through.
Actually come to think of it the "copy" thing should be taken as a complement because it shows that Mark knows what he is doing if he is being compared to people who can buy a new luxury car after one night of spinning.
I always thought Mark was world class even before i knew him. Even 10 years ago before The Guvernment his mixing skills outshone most others in Toronto which is why he was hand picked to play at Toronto's biggest venue. |

Aaaah but thats what makes him so talented. He can play for a crowd. If its a trance crowd he pleases them, if its a house crowd he pleases them, if its a breaks crowd he pleases them.
Being versatile is a GOOD thing. I cant stand Djs that stick to one style. In fact I dont like Djs who play only one style in a set. The reasons i like DJs like Mark Oliver, Carl Cox and Danny Tenaglia is because you know that you are going to be taken for a ride the whole night. You arent just going to hear one style. Tenaglia will play a lot of house and then suddenly bust out a techno tune. Coxy will play techno and suddenly its breaks for the next 10 mins. Same thing with mark.
The fact that mark can perform on par with internationals in pretty much every genre is a good thing. Unlike alot of djs out there that will play their same set over and over again no matter what type of crowd is present or what time of night it is... |

those are pretty disrespectful statements to make...why can't you just pick your favourite instead of bashing?
many residents (MO, Deko-ze, Kenny, Addy, etc.) CHOOSE to focus on their residencies instead of touring and making an international name for themselves.
I also think you're confusing "copying" with being versatile. As the resident at Guv, part of his job is to open and close (or both) for guest DJs...he can't just play "his" style when Guv has guests who spin everything from trance to techno to breaks.
I think if you ask the other prominent resident DJs in this city...and poll the "big name" DJ who've passed through Guv over the years...they won't have the same ty opinion of Mark Oliver's talents as you seem to posses. |

Well he shares his time with System on Fridays and Comfort Zone Sundays between 9am-12pm. He usually comes out to play at Guv for the All Accesses. |
